Can’t wait for BB season to beginCoach Doh is laying the RIGHT groundwork by bringing in top talent, the only way to succeed in college athletics.
Papa Dia – Oklahoma and Louisville offers Tomasz Kwiatkowski – Virginia and Baylor offers Paul McCoy – Virginia and Kentucky offers Derek Williams – All Conference and All-region JC point guard Mouhammad Faye – Georgia Tech transfer We should see marked improvement this season. We are 2 Dia/McCoy caliber players away from post-season play.
let's hope Dia's back can hold up and that he can become the player we all hope he will be.
And...let's hope that everyone can remain academically eligible
My hope is that we can get McCoy and Williams on the floor at the same time.....that Williams can play the 2 and score the basketball. I've never seen him play, so I have no idea if that is a possibility?? But like BUS wishes for big men, I wish for some who can score consistently at the division 1 level.
I'm interested in Robert Nyakundi. He has size to play the 4, but the sjot to hit from 3. It'll be interesting to see Frank Otis & Justin Haynes as well, particularly Haynes. He's a legit 2G w/some handle, hops, and shot a respectable percentage from deep
“When I first committed to SMU, I thought it would take a couple of years of building. But with these players coming in, we should make a run. We have a lot of heavy hitters. It could get real ugly for a lot of teams we play.â€- Jalen Jones
I tend to forget about Nyakundi.....redshirting in BB is so rare. I tried a couple of times to get out to Arlington for one of his HS games when he was at Bowie, but never made it. I've had several people tell me he has a very good outside jumper. If he can hit it in games, he will definitely get pt this year. We are so desperate for guys who can score.
Nyakundi should be interesting to watch. On the one hand, he can shoot from across Central Expressway and hit it. On the other hand, Coach Doherty seems to value defense above all else - is he quick enough on defense?
It's hard to imagine this year's team will be even younger than last year's team.
Every year I say I cannot wait for basketball to begin, mainly because the football team sucks. Every recent year, when basketball starts I have been instantly disappointed and then it is a long 10 months to football. This year, although the football team still sucks at least there is hope. I will forget about basketball starting until it does in fact start.
I think he can too, but this is year three....we need to see some signs of turning the corner this year.
Sounds like it should be an interesting year. Looking forward to it, and I am interested in sitting in my new seats!
It is year 3 but year 1 only yielded one player in Cameron who's now gone so a Doh apologist would say it's year 2.1
By year three in basketball especially in this one year rent a player environemnt, we should expect (1) at least a .500 season given the schedule. (2) at least a .500 season in conference. (3) semi-finals in the conference tournament. Obviously, injuries, academic issues, and the like can take their toll on that goal, but this should be an attainable set of goals even with the loss of one starter. I do think Doherty can pull this off as well. But meaningful progress should start being made.
