What I was told about our scrimmage with Tech

I'm a little foggy on the details. I guess it was earlier this week at Moody?

A friend of a friend was at it and relayed the following:

1. He thought Bamba Fall looked like Bamba always does.
2. He thought Papa Dia looked pretty good -- vague, I know.
3. He thought McCoy looked better than Williams and believed McCoy would be the starting point guard.
4. He wasn't sure if it was Haynes or Otis (my guess is Otis), but he came away very impressed with him.
5. He left the scrimmage when SMU was up by 11 points with very little time remaining.

What does this all mean? I have no idea. If anymore knows more or happened to sneak a peak, chime in.

Encouraged? I guess.

If you don't know which player it was, what makes you "guess" it was Otis?

The way the player was described -- tall and lanky -- sounded like Otis.

Isn't Otis about 6'5" (which is not tall for a b-ball player) with a solid build...not lanky at all??

VERY SOLID BUILD for a HS Senior, reminded me of a Karl Malone.

Justin Haynes is listed at 6'5" and 192 lbs...that is lanky.

Doherty does not mention who the lanky one is, but here is what he had to say in his blog.....

November 7
"Scrimmage"
On Thursday, we scrimmaged Texas Tech in Moody Coliseum. NCAA rules allow teams to play two exhibitions or two scrimmages or a combination of both. Scrimmages are a great benefit because it affords you the opportunity to play against good teams that are well coached. In exhibition games you often play against poor competition so you don't really learn anything about your team.

We performed very well against Tech. In two 20 minute segments we looked good for 30 minutes. I was proud of our fight and toughness. Our young kids played well and Bamba Fall was terrific.

Next up: South Florida in Tampa on Friday. This one counts!

I love Doherty's blog...it gives nice insight, but if you're a big fan of SMU basketball, info about the team is nonexistent. Practices and scrimmages are closed, and there is no one on the inside who gives unbiased reports on the players/team. It is very frustrating not having any feel for the new guys heading into the opener.

I guess we'll start finding out on Friday at South Florida. Looking forward to it.

Does anyone think we can win this game? I think USF is picked pretty low in the Big East. Then again, so are we.

Doh will be trying to get a feel for rotations, 8,9 or 10 deep, etc. It will be interesting to see who starts @ the beginning of the season & then see what the starting lineups & rotations look like later. We know the Faye will be added to the mix.
