Or, for SMU grads, "... the absolute WORST." (Sorry - I kid. You just had a North Texas State Vocational School moment.)
With that said, however, we have no regressed. In football, we're all tired of hearing about the rebuilding project that seems to take place every few years, but the fact is it is in place again, and this time seems to have a sense of direction -- restocking the roster, starting with what is it - 8 or 9 incoming linemen, some of whom reportedly are very impressive? A quarterback who got kicked in the deep end as a freshman, and showed some signs this year of swimming ability (at least in the games I saw)? A pair of receivers who seem to be able to live up to Coach Jones' high praise? Long way to go, but under this staff, there appears to be direction and genuine reason for hope. I liked Coach Bennett, but I couldn't say that over the last couple of seasons.
As for basketball, it's much like football - a lot of new faces, especially young faces, mean mistakes and crappy nights at times, but even in the trainwreck in Fort Worth (or at least on my TV), it appears that we're much more athletic than last year, especially in the backcourt (obviously). If Fall hadn't gotten into foul trouble in the first half, the margin would have been a lot closer - Froggy High was having fits when he was in there, and then cruised when he was on the bench.
Just like football, there's plenty of frustration ... but also a little hope.
