This was a game (TCU) that I came away from embarrassed. It was a frustrating experience as we didn't look sharp at all. I didn't like our energy, our toughness or our leadership. Plain and simple.

It was a terrible way to start off the Thanksgiving Holiday.

The staff and I have decided to put in a small package of set plays – half court sets, out of bounds and secondary break – so our team can go to these plays with confidence at times of need during a game.

When you have so many new players you are not sure what would work best because you don’t have a feel of the all the players yet. What is their exact skill set? Who is the leader? How will they react in a game situation? It takes time to evaluate these things.

Teaching young players (11 freshmen and sophomores) the nuances of the game is challenging at times, to say the least. Motion offense is tough to teach as many players never played it before so we end up standing a lot. That is why we need a few set plays to run at those times of duress. Once we get the hang of our motion offense I think we will be very good at it.

He should have been embarrassed. That was a joke.

I don't know what motion offense he's using, but almost every one is a variation of the old Princeton offense. I'm surprised that high schools aren't using that any more. If run correctly it was nearly unstoppable in a man-to-man and could be easily adapted against a zone.

How hard is the "pick and roll" or "pick and pop"? That is pretty much what motion is. Once the ball is established you pick away from the ball. You should always get open shots under the hoop or a player flashing near the elbow. Maybe passing, recognition, and setting picks is our issue.

Speaking of, we have never been a good picking team. A lot of half arsed screen and picks is our problem.

That may have been one of the worst SMU efforts I have seen. They should be working noon and night.

He should be embarrased about his blog......nobody wants to hear a coach in his 3rd season cry about the motion offense and his young team.....what about the guys he's coached for more than one season - they still can't figure it out?

I figure more people want to hear from him than a guy in pajamas hiding behind a handle.

He could make them watch the movie Hoosiers at practice and teach them the swinging gate!

Well, running motion offense like they do at UNC and Kansas really requires quick and experienced point guard(s). Even Roy Williams had difficult time running this offense with Ty Lawson as a freshman. This is the first year that SMU has this calibre of point guard so please give Coach Doh a year or so. I hope coach Doh will push the ball faster and running many secondary breaks like they do at UNC.

I haven't seen SMU this year, but if the past is any guide, Doh's motion offense is not a Princeton-style 5-out looking primarily for open 3s and backdoor cuts. They are looking first for post entries. And it does take a while for players to incorporate the habits of constantly moving to the open spots.

In principle, that's great. But since you haven't seen us play, the low post play is going to be the problem with the team this year. Unless Papa Dia has a miraculous turnaround, he could fall into the abyss. Bamba Fall isn't strong enough but works his tail off. There are too many other question marks.

I think this team is going to be reliant on its to carry the scoring load, that in time, they could fizzle by mid-January.

what college basketball player has never run a motion offense before? you move around, set picks, and work to get open. how hard is that? this shouldnt be that difficult to teach, doh.
