Today I got a chance to watch in person the #1 rated HS basketball player in the country for the class 2012 & I came away amazed @ what I saw.

His name is Zach Peters & he plays for Prestonwood Christian Academy in Plano. He's 6'8 or 6'9 & must weight about 230 lbs. What [deleted] away was not just his size but how advanced his basketball skills are for a kid thats probably 14, maybe 15 years old. This was his first game of the season because he was injured playing football so he was out of shape. But he could still could do anything he wanted to on the court against a local 5A school, making them look like a jv team. His ballhandling skills were outstanding & his overall feel for the game was so advanced for his age. I am not strecthing it to tell you that I feel he could start for Duncanville HS right now. He's that good.

Also, it appears that Prestonwood might develop into something like a Oak Hill Academy. As I was watching the game another team entered the gym. I ask someone what team that was. I was told it was Prestonwood's
8th grade team. Many of the team are on the #1 AAU team in the country for 8th graders. They were huge for their age. I was told that they have 1 or 2 players that are better than Peters was @ the same age.

Anyway, if you live in the Dallas area & get an opportunity to watch him play I highly recommend it.

Yep, Peters is a beast. Probably a future Dukie would be my guess. I dont think those 8th graders are tops in the country, but probably top 10. Kenny Troutt brought that whole team that he put together for one of his sons en masse to PC. Troutts 6th grade sons team is in fact probably tops in the nation now after importing a kid like Peters from Florida. Amazing what a billion dollars can do. Look for Prestonwood to have two amazing teams of Dallas all-stars for the class of 2013 and 2015. Not to mention Peters in 2012 class.

I think the 8th graders are in the top 5 - they arm wrestle with a Detroit team and a California team for top honors.

on a side note - how fun would it be to be a regular 8th grade prestonwood basketball player and then have the "new guys" show up in mass to put you on the bench for 4 yrs.

I went to high school at Prestonwood and my younger brother goes there right now and peters will be playing at texas in the future. And prestonwood has slowly developed its basketball program, but it has nothing to show for it in the post season. Not to mention that they have never beaten a legitimate public school team. But i have heard that the 8th grade team will most likely change that

Crazy as it may seem, but following junior high kids is getting to be big business. There aren't limits on colleges contacting kids at that level, so some colleges are making the effort at that point so they can be front of mind with them before they are limited on their contact.
