Back From the Game II

What a pleasant surprise.......

I think Doh has found a rotation.........Losers of minutes were Malone and Harp. Faye has gobbled those up and rightfully so. If he continues to play like he did today, we are at least going to make teams in conference work to beat us.....He couldn't have looked any more different from the player two days ago. Attacked the basket, shot the 3.............

We looked very athletic on the court with this rotation. Outside of Memphis, I don't think we will see a team any more athletic than what we faced today - and after a shaky start, we settled down and kicked some [deleted].........

None of that crappy zone stuff today!!!!! We were aggressive, stayed in front of our man for the most part - poor Harp got toasted while he was out there - and we made those guys work for their shots. We still fumble too many balls - tightness about what a certain man stalking the court might do, perhaps.......

Here's a knee jerk - I can't think of a better freshman player SMU has ever had than McCoy. Maybe Steven Woods.......This kid is so solid in all facets.

I'll say it again, Williams has a sweet stroke. I would like to see him shoot a little more.........

Makes me look forward to that Colorado game............

He looks very poised for a freshman. Doh said he comes to practice fired up all the time.

I saw X talking to Lindeburg I think. What is that guy up to these days?

It is interesting (and admitedly overly optimistic) that the first time that SMU put the projected lineup that most had hoped might show progress in 2008-2009(post Faye), SMU had a Minutes Played Stat like this:

McCoy 39
Faye 33
Williams 29
Dia 26
Fall 23

Now SMU won't shoot as well as they did in this game in most future games but the anticipated, preferred, projected lineup did gel in really the first time it was used. I was shocked Faye sat the first half against UTSA-almost wonder if it was a discipline thing.

Lineburg is now the athletic director up at Radford University in Virginia. His wife still has a good job in Dallas, so he comes back here regularly.

that was like bread and water for a starving man today. Paul McCoy was fantastic, but he really has been great almost all year. Which doesnt say much for the rest, but today they brought it and played. Faye has that extra gear when driving to the bucket or going for a rebound. hope to see more of it.

we played hard against ISU and A&M, but today was actually fun. would like to see the rotation even a bit tighter to establish cohesiveness and then expand it back later in the year, but today was a marked improvement in every way. Like i said the other night, please tell these guys to go play and get it done and dont look for any rest or any help. play through your mistakes and play even harder to make up for a mistake.

Along with the tighter rotation I thought the pressure man 2 man D with Faye guarding the point was very good @ the stretch of the game in the 2nd half where we blew the game open.
We were able to get alot of easy baskets today off the D pressure.
With a team that shoots a low FG% & FT% its critical to continue to get easy baskets created by D.

Also, I thought a big key was Williams settling down & having a much better (controlled) 2nd half. Having him run the PG effectively could be the key to the remainder of the season. I would like to see both McCoy & Williams do a better job of getting the ball to the middle of the court on O instead of letting the D trap them on the wings. Keep the ball in the middle!

Like everyone, I was very impressed with Daye & his athletic ability.
The one play that stands out is the length of the court drive when he blew by everyone & brought home the thunder.

McCoy plays like a seasoned jr. or sr. Oustanding game.

Hopefully this wasn't a big tease. I sure liked what I saw today in the 2nd half.

Coach Doherty,
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! for playing a normal rotation. Man, it's about time!

I expected for McCoy to be good, but not this polished. He does not play like a freshman at all. It is going to be a treat to watch him play for 4 years.

Wouldn't it be cool if the same number of fans who found the time to rip Coach D after a loss went out of their way to congratulate him on getting the Ponies to completely dismantle a team that had upset Georgia last week?

When do the students come back for the Spring semester? Any idea as to how many current students are from the Metroplex?
