MVP so far

Brittany Gilliam has led the team statistically through most of the season, but to me, the MVP so far (and I don't think it's close) has been Delisha Wills.

A few times yesterday, she had a shot and passed it up to get the ball to a teammate who had a better shot. Twice she saw a teammate turn the ball over at the top of the key (when she was in the low post) and she was the one who made it all the way back to the defensive end of the floor to get the ball back.

Maybe the most impressive example was at TCU. Took my family over to see THE PONIES BEAT TCU, and late in the game, when the MFFrogs were creeping back into it, Wills stopped her teammates as they were heading to the bench for a timeout and held her own little mini-timeout on the floor. Don't know what she said, but she was really intense getting her point across ... and of course, we closed out the win.

Coach R has talked about how we miss the points and rebounds that last year's seniors gave us, but maybe we miss their experience and leadership even more. Looks like the intensity and competitiveness that we got last year from Dodds and Shepherd and Cobb might come from Wills now.

BEAT THE HELL OUT OF MARSHALL!

Men
Paul McCoy - easily.

Women
Christine Elliott.
Yes, I'm serious. She hasn't been the leading scorer, and barring an enormous outburst in C-USA games, she won't be. But she has gotten so much better as the year has gone on ... Her presence in the low post has made life a lot easier for Delisha Wills, because teams can't double Wills any more. Elliott also has gotten a lot more comfortable at the FT line, and if she keeps hitting her free throws, she can really make teams pay. She's a better shot blocker than I thought she'd be, too.

Is she related at all to former #2 overall NBA draft pick Armen Gilliam?

Don't suppose she's related, or we would have heard about it by now.

And yes, she has been awesome. She gets double-covered all the time, and she continues to lead us in almost every game.
