How much of this mess is coaching?

It appears we are being out coached. SMU seems to have more talent than a lot of teams we have played. We are losing to real bad teams at home and very average teams on the road. At this pace, SMU will be lucky to win a conference game. Absolutely pathetic!!! I give Doherty one more season after this and he is gone. Orsini's "Top 25 in everything we do" needs to be changed to "Bottom 25 in everthing we do"

When guys are missing every wide open shot in the first 5 minutes, that isn't being outcoached.
Those things happen to a young team on the road - miss open shots, lose confidence, down 17-2. Fight all the way back because of superior athleticism, then have your heart broken by a couple of tough 3's by Rice and fall apart at the end.
This team will start winning by the end of this season and will be the best bball team around here in a long while next season.

I hope you are right but history suggests otherwise.

Leopards don't change their spots.

Is it time to have one of those town meetings like in Hoosiers? Do we have a Jimmy Chitwood waiting in the wings?

didn't the announcers say going into last night's game that we had the highest 3 point % out of CUSA. Man, we were off last night.

The coaching is absolutely terrible. Who in the world can't recognize this? Why do we always look completely unprepared for every team we play? We continue to stick with the same utterly useless offense and a defense that allows F'ing Rice to shoot nearly 50% against us. I still contend that witht the talent gap that our players allegedly have over a team like Rice, these guys would be more effective w/out any coach at all, then with Doh on the sidelines.
This is beyond embarrasing and Doh has done nothing at all to show he understands what's going on out there. When we come back from these big deficits it's because the players just play and use their athleticism. I'd love to know what the hell the gameplan was last night. Totally incompetent.

The coaching is awful. We play incredibly bad man D, give up easy looks from the arc, and don't board despite almost always having more size. Our rotations in man are laughable.
Our motion offense doesn't have any motion in it. We'd be best served by using our talent and playing a penetrate and dish game, but we don't. Nyakundi doesn't get open looks just passing the ball around the horn. Let McCoy/Williams get in the lane and kick it to open shooters on the wing
Our rotation is funny. Justin Haynes, sit for two games, but is among the first subs at Rice. Frank Otis is killing Rice on baseline spins and he never gets back in the game. Bamba is better then Julius Francis and neither can play. Doh has taken any confidence Dia should have and dumped on it. He's not perfect and he has huge lapses, not to mention falls away too much, but he's our only legit big. Alex Malone proved a capable scorer as a frosh, but barely gets on the floor now. Even during huge scoring droughts, one of our most gifted offensive performers sits. Harp wouldn't average double digits in frat intramurals.
Roster planning is awful. Sign a 7 man class and weed them out. Bring in 4 PGs/Combo's in 2 years, if Dubois had come etc. Instead of raw bigs that only have size, how about a few workhorse 6'7 guys that will pound the glass, play tough D, and convert on the blocks every once and again. This is CUSA, you can play small and be effective, if you have skill.

But we were assured by others that a rotation was going to come from the non-conference season.
I think they are poor on the block out and none of our big men are willing to really take it to the basket. I've seen all I can see from Dia's fade away 12-footer. He needs the shot to be diversified but he is so mentally flakey, there is no way of knowing what you're going to get.
The 3-point play to cut it to 3 was a nice play. Did he score after that?
8-10 wins max. Wondering if Doherty would like to take back flipping 10-20 to 20-10....

When are we going to see a Starting Lineup of Fall, Dia, Faye, Williams and McCoy? Why not see what they can do in tandem. I don't understand what they are doing with Harp? Big runs last nite when he came into the game. I think you've got to give Nykundi some minutes off the bench-he at least has potential to be an offensive threat. And I'd definitely usze Otis but only coming off the bench. Not a big fan of Walker. Haven't come to definite conclusion on Haynes. I'd definitely rein in minutes for players other than the starters and Nykundi, Otis and Malone.

you may be sick of Dia's fade-away, but who is better on the roster at the 4 or 5?

I'd actually bench Fall. I'd like to see McCoy/Williams/Faye/Otis/Dia. Fall/ Nyakundi/Malone are first off the bench in no order. Walker subs when the guards feel like they might die of exhaustion

well he gives you defensive presence-but hey I literrally have seen better moves to the basket and definitely better shots in YMCA 6th grade basketball. Its exasperating, embarrassing, humiliating, frustrating-and drives you crazy. Especially when he takes one of his patented 5 foot shots 2 feet from the basket. Or he misses the rim on what should be a dunk. Bamba could miss the rim on a damn layup at 7-1. At least he has learned to shoot free throws. How much better would SMU be if Bamba and Dia could just hit the gimme, easy 3 to 4 to 5 Foot jump shot?

Lots. But they can't.
