My thoughts from the game

This was my first chance to see the Ponies this year, and let me tell you, I was impressed. Honestly, after losing Janelle Dodds, I figured this team would be a lot less capable, and that our record had been inflated against weak competition. Not true.
We're a pretty damn good basketball team. Wills was sensational. Elliott was unstoppable, but we didn't get the ball to her nearly enough. Hill did a nice job of staring down Jareica Hughes (defending CUSA Player of the Year) and not throwing up with fear - Hughes is the best player on either team, but Hill didn't blink. Severin was awesome with the defense and rebounding and dirty work.
I was sitting with some co-workers (UTEP types, but they came up with the tickets), and to hear them tell it, we beat their JV today, because they had a couple of players out with injuries. Then I found someone who knew the UTEP stats, and he said those injured players are tall but don't do much. Plus, we got very little out of Gillam and Samuels, so it's not like they were any more shorthanded than we were. Plus, this was a win on the road against the defending conference champs -- I thoroughly enjoyed the drive home, and haven't stopped smiling, or BRAGGING, since.
TALK ABOUT OVERCOMING A MINER OBSTACLE .... nice job, Mustangs!
