Same story, different game – we play so tentative on the offensive end. As soon as someone catches the ball they are immediately looking to pass....they look scared to death they're going to do something wrong. Which results in Williams or McCoy dribbling near half court with 8 seconds left on the shot clock. Granted last night Memphis had a lot to do with that (they are a VERY talented team…most of their regulars have NBA athleticism and length)....but this has been going on the whole season.
Time for my usual rant - our lack of a true scorer is still killing us. Every year since 2002 our best scorer has been our PG (Hop, Killen and now McCoy – Ike may have been in 06 but Killen was the second option). And this year our only two scorers are both PGs. Every year I am sure our coach will sign a 2 who can score, but it never happens. I still can’t believe with a class of 7 we couldn’t get one??
The over coaching kills me – the substitution pattern has been discussed and it is obvious to everyone. Also, the fouling and calling timeouts down 14-16 pts with a little over a minute left was ridiculous.
I love when Nyakundi spots up for a 3.....he has such a great shot for someone his size. Faye, kind of like a lot of people on this team, plays well for a few minutes and then completely disappears. Papa frustrates me to no end and I still believe he has more talent than anyone on the team. He needs to be pushed and that is obviously not happening right now.
It takes a team like Memphis to get any atmosphere at Moody – but it can be so great....although we’ve been saying that for years.
