ROUNDBALL REWIND with Katie Remke Seal: Cast of many

Postby PonyPride » Thu Feb 05, 2009 4:26 pm

The Mustangs are off to a 7-1 start in Conference USA games, but PonyFans.com's Katie Remke Seal points out that while scorers like Brittany Gilliam and Delisha Wills might get the headlines, it's the Mustangs' reserves who have proved crucial in SMU's six-game winning streak, and who will be key in this week's games at Southern Miss and UCF.

Women team need more consistency

Postby Bigtime41 » Mon Feb 09, 2009 1:42 pm

In reviewing the play of the womens team over the last 3 years there has been one thing that led to them having the best year in program history last year and that was consistency. Last year they put out the same line-up all year long and I really think that was the one difference that led to that team have the consistency they had last year. The year before like this year the constant line-up changes doesn't lend itself to people having defined roles. Last year everyone knew there job and this year I don't think roles have been consistently defined and the end result is inconsistent play. On any champship caliber team there is always consistency in line-up, player rotation and in game adjustments based on who is playing well. This year I don't what is going on however one thing is for sure roles and player rotation needs to defined before tournament. You should always go with who have been through the wars and who has proven their mettle in the clutch.

From what I gather, most roles for the upperclassmen HAVE been defined, but the rotation of lineups has to do with a desire to have some younger players step into more prominent roles - some by coming off the bench, others by starting some games. I would think that we'll see a more consistent rotation as the end of the season approaches.
