Grab my paper this morning to read the one paragraph that Bobbi writes when we have a home game and.....nothing.....zippo.....only mention is in the section of what is on the radio today, other than that, not one acknowledgement that there is a College Basketball game happening in Dallas today.
Come on Bobbi!
See everyone at the game this afternoon.
Go Ponies!!

Can't blame Bobbi. As a young upstart writer, she would love to have something in the paper everyday, the college sports editor makes the call on what goes in. His last name is Campbell, 214-977-8444.

THe DMN really is going down hill. I always liked their Mavericks coverage and enjoyed the full page expanded standings, but recently they moved them to the back in tiny print, and not expanded.
Other thing I liked was the full page at the back of the Weekend section on Friday that showed all the new concerts and all the concerts that were coming over the months. Now, its about a quarter page and has about 1/3 of the content it used to.
Guess times are tough all over. I don't care how crappy SMU is playing, or how things are chosen, but it should be Mandatory to have a heading in the College Briefs that SMU is playing today and give us a couple of lines.

What was there to write about with regards to this game against "Cal-Poly who"? Both teams have terrible records.....and we will be lucky to have 1200 people at the game.

It is true, But SMU is the only D1 College in Dallas and the DMN is the only major Daily of Dallas.... I don't care if the headline was:
SMU Will Attempt to Suck Less than CSB in a Yawner of a Matinee Today
But at least let people who read the sports page know that there is D1 College game in Dallas today.

Might be 1,400 with something in the paper.

Look at what the Corpus Christi Caller-Times does for their home team, the A&M-CC Islanders:
Men are playing in Thibodeaux, LA today (must suck)...they get a huge write-up:

The women's team has a home game tonight...they've got a nice write-up as well:

I read this the other day. I really don't think the DMN can last much longer in its present form.

following the lead of USA Today, up from 75 cents. It would be nice if at least our box scores were in there. I also liked in the past where the game writeups would list the attendance, e.g. "...in front of 2364 at Moody Coliseum.."
No idea where to find the attendance now.

Some editor up there told me years ago, they aren't "that provencial" to have a "hometown team." In other words, they don't claim us.

Here's the bottom line: the DMN, like every other paper in the country, is not in business to report the news. They're in business to sell newspapers.
Similarly, ESPN, et al, are not in the business of showing the most relevant and important highlights - only the highlights and games that will drive up their own ratings. They can dress it up like pure journalism, but that is a thing of the past.
