Another "heartbreaker" last night and the team continues to find ways to lose games. However, an extreme optomist might be able to point that at least we are leading in or in games to have a chance to blow them. Previously we weren't even competitive.

In all seriousness though, we have 3 games remaining in the regular season. At home vs Tulsa and So Miss and on the road against UH. If we can win 2 of those 3 games, we will tie our highest regular season conference win total in our history being a member of CUSA. Many people may say "how far have we sunk that 4 wins should be our goal?" Well, at this point in the season, it is a good goal for this team to have I think and could build momentum for next year.

As a second goal, this team should win their first round CUSA tourney game. Being the last seed we will play the #5 team in the conference, which right now UTEP and UH are both tied for the 4 seed. Either of those opponents are someone we could beat in Memphis.

Our season may have been a HUGE let down, but we only graduate Bamba from this team and finishing strong (after so many games of playing tough opponents close) would be a nice confidence boost for the team headed into next year.

Totally agree with you. This team can hang with anyone but Memphis, we just need to find a way to win. I expect us to be in all three games coming up and would love to see us pull out 2 of the 3 and then really concentrate on getting a tourney win. Of course, if we did, we would play Memphis in the second round, who could very well be ranked #1 then....I would take playing the #1 team in the country on our final game.....thats like a bowl game!

This gives you an indication of how terrible Conference USA is. Absolutely pitiful.

I agree. If this team could win 3 of 5 games to finish the season at 11-20, it would be a tremendous boost to morale and something to build on in the off-season. Still need to do more with the roster than simply replacing Bamba with Julius, but we sure could use something to build on and 3 wins would be quite an accomplishment. I really think they are due to have a game (at Moody) where everyone plays/shoots well. I'm visualizing a start like they had at Memphis - but having these guys play that well for more like 30 minutes (have to be realistic in knowing they can't play like that for a full 40 minutes). Sure would be nice to see it come against Tulsa.

agree. this team is just not good and capable of beating quality teams. what scares me is that almost nothing changes for next year...

Guess what? These teams are the top teams in our conference after Memphis. To act like the elite teams in COLLEGE BASKETBALL HISTORY, such as UNC and UCLA, are who we should use a measuring stick- that is what I would call not having a clue.

dude, get over yourself, you act like we are a team in the ACC or Big12.....Let me tell you...we are not, we are playing the hand that we are dealt...I think we will get there...get into the tourney in the next 5 years....

But if you are mad at SMU for losing to Memphis at home, at Memphis, at UAB, Houston at home, at UTEP...then you are the funny one.....Top 25 teams would have not been as close as we were.

Get a clue and go back and kiss Roy William's @ss, you are no SMU fan, we are trying and getting better.

Thats what I don't get...some on this board act like we should be elite, and seem to actually root against SMU, hoping we will fire Doherty, a national coach of the year, recruiter of a national championship team, a NCCA champion, an NBA draft pick...

I dont want to start over...I want this to succeed and am behind it 100 percent......everyone get on board....

fully acknowledge we play in a weak conference...I just don't want to be the doormat of a weak conference. The point is that (as demonstrated in recent close road losses to UAB and UTEP), I have hope we could actually win 3 of 5 to finish and woauld have something to build on for next year. Have to hope the guys that return next year continue improving and that Doherty can find a couple of addt'l pieces so we can at least become one of the better teams CUSA has to offer.

lets hope we have a few openings to possibly find a late person for next year. Otherwise, I dont see much improvement at all. McCoy and Williams need some help immediately. Man, Dia is a disappointment for sure.

I'm not a fan of Roy Williams but I am a die hard SMU fan.
I spend ALOT of time & $$ taking friends & family to our games. No one wants to see us win more than me. When we do something good, I am the first to stand up and applaud. When we continually do something bad, I am going to question it & probably disagree with it.
I live in a world of reality, not fantasy. I call em like I see em. No sugar coating. I have seen fans continue to hit the rewind button year after year after year saying wait till next year.

IMO, this program is not in any better shape than it was when Doh got here. I can't for the life of me understand how some of you continue to support moral victories other than the fact that you have caved in and just accept the L.

The reality is we are 8-18, with 2 conferences wins in a weak conference.
I'm not even trying to compare us to anything close to the ACC. We are in a weak conference & theres no reason why we shouldn't be able to have a team that competes for one of the top spots annually. The product being put on the court is bad. The results point that out. Again, you can spin it anyway you want but it is what it is. It has nothing to do with being loyal, its about being realistic.

If Doh does turn it around than great. Personally, I like Doh. He has an impressive resume. But here we are @ the end of year 3 for Doh & I am not impressed with the results I'm seeing on the court.

time to revise our "goals for the rest of this season". At this point, I just want the guys to win Bamba's last home game and finish with a winning record in Moody. An added bonus would be winning our 1st round game in CUSA, but I don't see that as very likley.

I think your right about the level of competition but your really setting your standards too high. As an optimist, I couldn't consider what I believe your expectations for this year were , to be as realistic. What I get from your comments is that we should be no less than 4th in the league standings? Is that about right?

Where do you think we should have been by now ?
What kind of expectations did you have for this year and where do you believe we should be at the end of next season?

Our #1 goal should be protecting leads and learn how to close out a damn game.

Since the tourney is basically a road game, we'll lose 1st round. I sure wish we had some help coming in for next year. We'll win maybe 4-5 in conf next year.

I think your right about the level of competition but your really setting your standards too high. As an optimist, I couldn't consider what I believe your expectations for this year were , to be as realistic. I made a comment on another thread about Tulane, a program I am very familiar with. They are not a very good basketball team. If you saw them @ Moody this year than you know what I'm talking bout. They have 7 conference wins. I can promise you they don't have the talent we do.
Very confusing to me to see teams like Tulane, ECU, Marshall, Rice, So Miss ahead of us & the answer to my question always keeps coming back to Coach Doh.
