IRVING, Texas - Emma Cannon of UCF and SMU's Christine Elliott are the winners of this week's Conference USA Women's Basketball Players of the Week honors. Cannon is the only player this season to win Player of the Week accolades three times, while Elliott captured her first Rookie of the Week merits.

Both Cannon and Elliott posted back-to-back double-doubles in leading their teams to a pair of home wins.

UCF defeated Memphis and UAB to finish the conference season with a perfect 8-0 home record. Cannon averaged 21 points and 14 rebounds per game.

With wins over Tulane and UTEP, SMU clinched the 2009 C-USA regular season title and the No. 1 seed in this week's championship. Elliott averaged 15.5 points, 16.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game, while shooting a solid 61.9 percentage from the floor.

Elliott could re-write a lot of our record books before it's over. Congratulations to her.

Freshman center ties SMU rebounds record, posts two double-doubles

DALLAS (SMU) - Freshman center posted a pair of double-doubles and tied a 22-year-old SMU record to lead the SMU women's basketball team to a pair of wins over Conference USA rivals Tulane and UTEP and the 2008-09 C-USA regular-season championship. For her efforts, Elliott was named Conference USA Rookie of the Week.

Elliott averaged 15.5 points, 16.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game, while shooting a robust 61.9 percentage from the floor. Elliott had 21 rebounds against Tulane, setting a new SMU record for a freshman and tying the school record for rebounds by any player. Elliott's rebounds haul, which tied the SMU record set by Felicia Bluitt in 1986 against TCU, also tied for the second-highest total in any Conference USA game, falling one board short of the all-time record for rebounds in a league game.

Elliott's double-doubles against the Green Wave and the Miners were her third and fourth of the season, and the Rookie of the Week honor is her first.
