Anybody remember the NCAA tourney game in Tucson? I was there but don't remember the year. Karlin Kennedy was a JR and we almost (shoulda) beat Virginia. Who else was on that team and how did we get in? It was SWC era. IMHO that was our best team ever but I think next year's team has a good chance to top that.

XTC would know for sure but I think it was Karlin, Nici Johnson, Claudia Brassard, Kveta, Karen Blair, Anika Calvert, Megan Woods and others. We were in the old WAC that year (with Utah, BYU, New Mexico, etc.). That was a strong conference prior to the split.

WAC? My bad for not remembering. Thought maybe it was still the Brandl, McLaughlin days. Thanks for the tip.

McLaughlin's senior year was the last year of the SWC. Brandl and Shawna Ford were Juniors that year (injury and transfer rule), so their Senior year was the first year in the WAC. The year you're referencing was the year after Brandl and Ford. We won the WAC conference tournament Blair and Brassard's Senior year - I think that team lost in the second round vs. Georgia (XTC, help me out here).

That's about right, the Tucson trip was in 1998, we had a nice lead on Virginia, but they put a 6'8" girl in the middle of their zone defense and cut off our drivers and posts, and we couldnt score for awhile. most of the people you named were on that team, along with Kate Remke, and Kaci Berend.

we didnt win the conference tournament that year, we had an at large bid. think we were a 10 seed.

Beat Kent State in the first round (they were ranked 19th) and lost to Georgia second round. Georgia was a Final Four team that year.

I thought it was Toledo? I seem to remember the Rockets being there at that game.

You're right, it was Toledo. I get the Ohio teams mixed up.
