Isiah Thomas Signs Four JC Recruits

The four JC players all seem pretty solid stats wise. Isiah Thomas just arrived at FIU several weeks ago, and his situation resembles Doherty's upon entering SMU. Both coaches have venerable resumes, yet have publicly fallen out of rank in recent times. Matt Doherty's first recruiting class in 2007 resulted in seven incoming freshman. As we know this has hindered Doherty's recruiting in his subsequent classes. I believe by signing JC recruits, Thomas is building a better foundation to build the program. These highly talented JC transfers will help the team with some immediate wins, while simultaneously adding credibility to the program and Thomas for potential new recruits. Maybe just like how we got Doherty from FAU, we can get Thomas from FIU (Pending the outcome of the next 2+ years at FIU)???

Here are the transfers they acquired according to ESPN.com

Marvin Roberts -- touted by FIU as the leading junior college scorer in the nation this past season, averaging nearly 30 points per game -- is from Brooklyn, N.Y.

Antoine Watson, a 6-4 guard from Raleigh, N.C., played with Roberts at Redlands and averaged 24.8 points a game.

Stephon Weaver is a 6-3 guard from Forest City, Ark., who led Connors State to the NJCAA Final Four last season, averaging 17 points a game.

Phil Gary, a 5-10 point guard, recorded three triple-doubles last season at Chicago Malcolm X and averaged 19 points and nine assists, according to the Herald.

The magnificent 7 was a huge mistake by Doh & I'm sure he wish he could have a do over.

The stats look very good for Thomas new recruits.
I didn't see any 5 & 5's on the list. The impressive thing to me was how quickly he signed them after just taking over as HC.

huge mistake is an understatement IMO, it borders on stupidity that will deservedly lead to his undoing.

PB did the same thing with the same results.

I simply do not understand the aversion to JCs at this school.

When Doherty arrived here he was very open about the fact that he would recruit from HS and not the JUCO ranks. I think this had a lot to do with our recruiting restrictions at the time.

Many here may recall, but Derrick Williams was one of the first true signs that SMU really did change its recruiting standards to be on equal footing with other schools. If I recall correctly he was a non-qualifier out of high school.

I better not talk about this too much or Stallion will be upset that I am stealing his shtick!
