The NBA doesn't help either. Let kids go pro from high school and people can stop pretending that "one and dones" like Rose are "student athletes."

stern has a valid point, they want to see these players play against better talent...

lets be totally honest, there are only a small handful of HS players who have the ability to make it in the NBA. There are lots of others who clog up the system and never pan out and end up wasting the NBA's time and their own when they could play and develop their talent and perhaps actually have NBA careers.

for a solution i propose that HS grads be allowed to play for two years in the D-league to see if they will be viable draft picks and if not their amateur status will be preserved but they will only have 2 years left of NCAA eligibility. of course they will have the opportunity to be paid in the D-league but, really, who cares if they are?

Agreed. Even the elite players like Rose, Beasley, etc., should be required to play at least two years. I heard Bobby Knight saying that when players go one-and-done, players can do marginal work in the fall semester and then play in the spring without going to class if they know they're not returning. That totally defeats the notion of the student-athlete, and weakens the college and pro games by limiting the experience these guys get.

Not to mention the effect all this has on graduation rates.

Of course every one of us would trade a scholarship down the road for a final four trip today.

So do you have a D league in place for players that that cannot make it in college but have NBA talent or just kick them to the curb?

I also think the NBA wants to at least seem like they put an emphasis on education. Have you ever heard some of those guys talk? They have the vocabulary of a 5 year old

I don not know if 1 or 2 years of college would help that, since the guys you are talking about have had some college. Anyway just a thought.
