Deron Williams is hosting a skills academy at Crum this week for elite HS and college PG's. Once again, Crum coming up huge when it comes to hosting events like this. There is a list of HS PG's attending at the bottom of the above link.
Between this event and June's tweet about Deron playing in his golf tourney in Hawaii, he has become quite the little buddy of SMU. Too bad he had no interest playing here back in the day!

Actually, I was told he did have some interest. Not enough, obviously, to sign with us, but he at least entertained the idea for a while, which is more than a lot of local kids can say.

Time to translate to W's and recruits.
I'm tired of fluff.

He was the same year in high school as Bryan Hopkins and there was not a coach or recruiting service in nation that did not have Hopkins ranked higher that Williams. Hopkins was a top 50 player and Willaims a top 150 player

Hop was a top 25 player and Williams a borderline top 100 player....at that time Hop was definitely the better player. Neither was considered the best player on their HS team - Bosh was ranked higher than Hop and Bracey Wright higher than Deron.

At the Big Time Tourney in Vegas, after Deron's junior season, he completely blew up. Ended up being a far bigger recruit then Hop, who was slipping after being exposed as a small combo. Ratings don't reflect the interest. I heard Pitino tell Donovan that Williams was little Jason Kidd in training. High praise and not the type of praise coaches of that magnitude were dropping on Hop. Hop & Walker started as the known commodities, but Williams was the biggest of the 3 by the end of July.
