I call it a rumor simply because I have no concrete proof to post on here. But a really reliable source in the athletic department informed me that the transfer is happening and there is now a 0% chance of him coming back.
I hope my source is wrong, but at this point I don't think McCoy will be back.
Also mentioned eligibility issues with Faye and the JC's coming in, but that's not really a surprise...I'm sure they'll find a way to work past those.

If that is true then I suspect this will be DOH's last season at SMU. This program already seems to be in disarray.
GO PONIES!!!

Well, Paul, thanks for stopping by.
At this point I am no longer concerned what happens to this program. It will not be fixed until a new voice is leading this. This program will be lucky to win 11 games in 2009-2010. It's too late for Doherty to salvage it.
But I am curious to know why no announcement has been that is transferring/released. Usually that stuff is out well before now.

FALSE ALARM.
Enough people contacted me today about this post that I made some calls to several folks in the athletic department who might know, including one who went so far as to check with Coach Doherty himself, who said that this is JUST A RUMOR and nothing more.

If I have not said this before, you are the man, PP, or, as we would say in Ireland, the horse. (a Pony in this case)

...that's the Second Cry for Wolf-have we got a third?-that's the one you have to worry about
The Boy Who Cried Wolf
There once was a shepherd boy who was bored as he sat on the hillside watching the village sheep. To amuse himself he took a great breath and sang out, "Wolf! Wolf! The Wolf is chasing the sheep!"
The villagers came running up the hill to help the boy drive the wolf away. But when they arrived at the top of the hill, they found no wolf. The boy laughed at the sight of their angry faces.
"Don't cry 'wolf', shepherd boy," said the villagers, "when there's no wolf!" They went grumbling back down the hill.
Later, the boy sang out again, "Wolf! Wolf! The wolf is chasing the sheep!" To his naughty delight, he watched the villagers run up the hill to help him drive the wolf away.
When the villagers saw no wolf they sternly said, "Save your frightened song for when there is really something wrong! Don't cry 'wolf' when there is NO wolf!"
But the boy just grinned and watched them go grumbling down the hill once more.
Later, he saw a REAL wolf prowling about his flock. Alarmed, he leaped to his feet and sang out as loudly as he could, "Wolf! Wolf!"
But the villagers thought he was trying to fool them again, and so they didn't come.
At sunset, everyone wondered why the shepherd boy hadn't returned to the village with their sheep. They went up the hill to find the boy. They found him weeping.
"There really was a wolf here! The flock has scattered! I cried out, "Wolf!" Why didn't you come?"
An old man tried to comfort the boy as they walked back to the village.
"We'll help you look for the lost sheep in the morning," he said, putting his arm around

Not sure why this keeps cropping up and then refuted...unless its chain yankers and Doh Haters I am still a bit nervous about this....This late in the game, you gotta figure he is staying put and he is on pace to have a great career....only possibility I see is that he may want to be closer to home.
Stick with us Paul!!!!!! Doh needs to have a Web Chat here soon so we can ask him point blank.

To Paul McCoy:
Please make these rumors go away. You are the best young player I have seen in more than two decades, and you have a chance to be one of the best players ever at SMU. You electrified Moody Coliseum in your first season with the Mustangs, and we're all anxious to see you do it again for the next three years. Last year was tough for fans, and I'm sure for you, but there is reason to expect improvement, and that optimism starts with you. Please stay!

I was not very reassured when Doh here is quoted as saying "it is just a rumor" and not that it is not true.

I agree. Many times, where there's smoke there's fire. Doherty missed an opportunity put this fire out by not affirmatively negating it. Hell the original poster said it was a rumor, we already knew that.
