Just saw Paul McCoy on campus!! He had a huge smile on his face and was with his teammate, Derrcick Williams. He said he was really happy to be back at SMU and ready to see the rest of his teammates. He got back late last night....just as he promised.
Go Mustangs.

Hopefully he worked on his game and played a lot of pickup ball during summer vacation. I would expect nothing less since the coaches allowed him to go home and not attend any summer classes. He missed a chance to play with several pros and local college standouts at Crum.

This is great news b/c the staff wasn't even positive he'd be on campus this Fall, as of last week. They spent much of the summer talking McCoy off the transfer ledge

Might check your source. I was told consistently throughout the summer that Paul would be back.
There seems to be some level of misinformation being regurgitated by the naysayers or people who want the Mustangs (Doherty) to fail.

I suppose you can call this good news if you want, but i'd call Paul McCoy not transferring after obviously considering it = narrowly averting disaster. Not sure how it can spun into anything else. You are never out of the woods on something like this if mama wants him closer to home or he is homesick, or he is sick of losing.

He's on campus and that's all that matters.

From what I heard he really loved it here at SMU and was really upset he may have had to transfer closer to home because of family issues....He is back now, and I think the Mustangs are close to turning the corner and by the time Paul is done on the Hilltop he will be regarded as one of the greatest SMU Basketball players of all time.

Well, Hoopfan, you might be correct. But by that standard, just think how sick the University of Miami feels in losing Shawmbrey by transferring to SMU.

with all due respect, players like Shawbrey are a dime a dozen at the U. Thats why i dont understand why SMU doesnt get a few more transfers or guys looking to play more from the start. You can make the NFL or NBA from SMU just like you can anywhere else. Look at Q in hoops, Morestead and Rogers in football. If we would just win some games and draw some more respectable crowds.

my sources are impeccable and couldn't be closer. McCoy looked around and we sold him on staying. Suffice it to say he knows he can play at a much higher level. Also, be forewarned that this will be a problem next summer as well, unless we vastly improve this year.
As for misinformation being regurgitated by Doh naysayers, you get a hearty lol. All anyone cares about is winning, not our gun shy head coach. He starts recruiting and winning at a legit clip, naysayers go away. As of now, he deserves every shot thrown his way, not just for w/l's , but also for program direction and his management of the program

So, since your sources are so good...where exactly was McCoy "looking around"? And what are you talking about "gun shy" head coach. Do you really feel McCoy, Freshman "1st team All C-USA", is not "recruiting at a legit clip"?
What you are is a naysayer...speculating that McCoy will not be back, is about to jump off some ledge. Now that McCoy is back at SMU, you must be the one that is poised on the ledge...considering that you, personally, would have rather Doherty continue to lose at any cost.

See guys like this and Insane and others want you to invent good recruiting news rather tell it straight. Then they come up with the usual-you want us to lose crap. There is independent verifiable sources that generally back up SMU's mediocre recruiting over the years but its always Pony Doh's fault or Stallions fault. You guys never stand by your criticism when SMU has fallen flat on the face with those recruiting classes 3-5 years later. Most change their names on this site by then. Truth is I guarantee you we have hyped every single highly recruited players SMU has got every year. Most of you wouldn't know Darrius Joghnson from a man on the moon if hadn't spotlighted his incredible playoff run last year-and I was way ahead of all recruiting services in saying he was underrated. When your cross town rival out-recruits you for 20 straight years I'm not going to sugar-coat it. The test will ever be if SMU actually has an outstanding recruiting class that can compare to TCU. Then we'll see if the "doom and gloomers" aren't actually the biggest cheerleaders just like I was with Darrius Johnson.

Are we naysayers or realists? Doh's tenure has been nothing short of a disaster. We are entering year 4 and the program has progressively gotten worse. He can do the used car salesman routine and tell us (or tweet) how great things are, but there have been zero results. If McCoy isn't an all-conference player this year, there might be some drastic changes coming. The honeymoon has been over for a while.
I personally think the team will be slightly improved this year. Since the expectation level is so low for this program now, "improvement" might mean winning 10-12 games. Get the pom poms ready!

Stallion, I had taken you off my top 3 largest [deleted] on the site, but you might have jumped all the way back to Number 1 with that last post.
You really need to find other hobbies, it is getting embarrassing...

OK..OK..enuough already.
PonyDoh, Stallion and others who always wish to dogpile the negative....at least give the coaches their due by talking McCoy back from the ledge and back to "Big D". We need Paul McCoy to be successful and the coaching staff did another good job.
Now let's get on with recruiting more very good players to compliment Williams, McCoy and Co.
