geez you guys are harder on him than I was on BLM

Harp was a big time scorer in HS ( 22 points a game, 8 rebounds and 3 assists a game for both his JR and SR Seasons) and could shoot well from outside and also slash inside with the best of them and can jump out of the Gym and you think his playing style now is a result of Harp himself?...C'mon its a 'dumb down' by coach Doh and makes him look like a shell of his former self....Harp was a really good HS player ( His district MVP and First team All State) and looking at him now is like a basketball lobotomy was performed on him...he is performing like a robot and am sorry that he is playing this way as that is NOT really him. Let up on him really.....

I think you meant to post this in another thread in response to the guy that says harp should give up his scholarship and minutes and move to cambodia or some such absurdness.

I hear ya and hope that whoever says that on the other post will adjust. Harp is just doing what Doh wants and that is NOT his real style. Harp is just being a good soldier. And Harp is a good athlete and is fast and can jump.....I hope this isn't a stereotype issue.

Papa doesn't even though he's bigger and stronger than EVERYONE out there.

Because the college game is played at about twice the speed of pickup games. His speed and moves may look awesome at Dedman but against college players, not so much..............

I understand that. Its not that he was making moves, its that I recognize his potential to be an accurate shooter. The reference to Papa was a comparison...he looks just as lazy against 6'2 190lb white guys as he does against aTm.

Harp is by no means a superstar, but he should be shooting ~40-45% from three and taking 2-3 per game if he's going to be in there so much.

Umm, Papa is almost averaging a double double, w/guards who can't/don't get him the rock in areas where he can do much of anything. He's still charmin soft, but statistically he's pretty far from a bust, especially if you take into account circumstance

Also, please don't reference dominance in pick-up as being some sort of gauge. Straight up, every school in America has kids that dominate all summer, only to see the bench come October. As a Maryland guy, all I heard about all summer was how improved Adrian Bowie was from the 3pt line. He's started 1-14 on the year, and his latest tweet after yesterdays debacle vs Cincy says 'back to basics for AB, slash and finish, no 3s.' Dominating in pick-up couldn't mean less

Harp looks incredibly nervous out on the court and nerves show up when you shoot. That smooth stroke on a practice court turns into a rushed jerky motion at the faster speed. In addition, playing scared because you have Captain Hook standing on the sideline watching is not a good thing - even if you are his favorite practice player................

Papa has played 4 games this year, and, based on your quote, is off to a good start. Last year...he didn't look good AT ALL...like 4-5 points and as many boards (I'm too lazy to look it up)? I know Bamba ate some of that, and I recognize the "getting the ball circumstance." I just don't see the fire that a low post player needs to have. He'd rather be a 3-man and shoot from the elbow. Granted, I haven't seen him yet this year as I am now down in Houston.
I also see the laziness in Papa, both in pickup games and in the real games (last 2 years). Maybe he ups it a bit this year, but that dude is stronger than he lets on. Hope he keeps it up, and doesn't regress as in years past. Excuse me for judging a player's competiveness in a friendly game, but I'm going to continue to do it because players with fire want to win at all costs. I don't care if you don't think it applies, I do.

Harp sucks in the games, but he has good mechanics. He SHOULD be a better shooter. I see the potential to be a good role-player/shooter in Harp, and am dissapointed in his performance. If Harp can't step it up in the games, bench him by all means. I'm still confounded, however, why he has no confidence in his obvious ability to shoot the ball.

Listen to you, discussing Papa w/o having seen him this year, and using lack of competitiveness in pick-up as a point of reference. He doesn't play like a 3, and never has even tried to. Maybe a face-up 4, but never a 3.

When you put up the type of #'s he did in HS you have a certain confidence level.
As a player, you have ? about your game when you enter college, but you still have that confidence.
I saw Harp put up a double/double his Freshman year. I saw him hit several key shots in highly contested games his freshman year. I saw him rebound & add some nice assists. The confidence was there. Although not earth shattering, I saw some things in this kid. Many on this board said he would be a great 6 man off the bench.
Then last season comes. All the ranting about what great shape the kid is in. Big deal was made about his great mile run time. The kid was training in the summer. The season starts & the Scooby Doo mystery begins.
Fast forward to this season. The kid is showing NOTHING.
I don't care if he Doh's babysitter, Ping pong partner, future Grad Asst., whatever, he shouldn't be playing. His confidence appears to be totally gone.
Is he burnt out on basketball?
Is he a sucker for love? Does he show up with the weak knees (if u know what I mean)
Can he not make that transition from practice to a game? I would love for some of his teammates to discuss how he practices vs. how he plays.
Is he Doh's whipping boy & is beaten down so badly we are seeing the results?

If he's not burnt out & hasn't found that true love than its got to be the fact that the HC has destroyed his confidence.

If he does make shots in practice & really is one of the top 5 behind Crum doors, the HC is doing a really poor job to both the team & Ryan re: getting him untracked in games.

I've seen something close to this first hand but not this bad. The player usually gets buried at the end of the bench & you never hear from them again. What makes this so strange is the playing time continues with 0 results.

Here's hoping the next time he gets into the game he jacks it up every time he touches the rock, makes a few & as he walks off the court smiling the 1 finger salute is prominently displayed to all 750 of the SMU faithful (which includes me).
