Time to Call It......

I really wanted Doh to succeed but it's not going to happen. He can't change. It is just that simple. His ego is too large and his basketball IQ - coach wise - is too small. This team is beaten down just like the previous 3 editions. His best team was his first and he beat them down by conference play. These last 3 haven't made it past the tipoff of the first game...........
He really needs to do the University a favor and resign - now......He won't, he is too egotistical and so we are going to have to suffer right along with those poor guys he brow beats everyday. A loser is someone who never looks in the mirror, blames everyone else, and keeps doing the same stupid stuff. Doh, please don't go away mad, just go away................

Completely agree, but Doh is stealing way too much money to resign. It's probably the right thing to do, but I know if I were being paid $500,000 a year to do nothing and actually get worse every year, I would ride it out as long as possible. Orsini is the one who needs to make the move and I don't think he will anytime soon. We're stuck with this garbage for a while yet.

I doubt there will be any change unless the Circle of Champions decides a change is needed. I'm not sure there are enough people who even care anymore

There are plenty of wealthy basketball alums that would love to see Doherty gone. This needs to be the last year of the Doherty experiment.

Whatever happens in the next few weeks on the court will make it interesting to watch how it all goes down off the court....someone get your check book out.

Honestly, Doherty needs to be fired now. He has completely lost these guys.....they are beaten down with no fight left and we are not even into conference play.
I wish we would go after Russ Springmann at UT. He is a helluva recruiter.

Based upon Orsini's policies as he appears to only want proven successful (at least at some point) D-1 Head Coaches...will Orsini actually look at or even interview an assistant Coach who has never been a D-1 or D-2 Head Coach?..even if he has potential?

That's a great question. U gotta give someone
like Springmann a serious look.

This is a scary proposition to consider. Surely with Doh's failures, Orsini will be forced to re-evaluate his own philosophy of only hiring big name coaches. I fear another retread who will have the same minimal impact on this thing. We can only hope Steve O is open to rethinking the hiring process for this basketball program. He can't miss this badly again.

You wonder if Doh will ever get a legitimate HC position ever again…I say no

I predict he returns to TV in some form. Stick with talking & smiling at the camera for a living...that's what he's good at.

Who is the June Jones of basketball? Is there a guy out there like that? I don't see that guy out there right now. Only way SMU gets a proven winner is if it pays basketball's version of JJ money.

if this was a money issue, it would be no issue. Its a Doh contract issue, I believe. You see, many believe this job a graveyard, so wise ones, when negotiating demand a certain time period. If not given that time, they don't take the job. See no out clause

Its all negotiable and a 'no out ' clause is difficult but not impossible to manuever and if he's not wanted here at SMU, Doh and the AD will find a way to part ways amicably. And c'mon its always a 'money' issue, just how much? Lutz is the choice it sounds like to continue for the remainder of the season if this were to actually happen and will give SMU plenty of time to find the right choice for HC. The heat is only going to be turned up in the next few weeks as they will go 1-4 for certain the next 5 games ( UTEP there, UAB, Tulsa and Rice there) and will bet they will not be pretty.
I agree about the traditional history of this Mens BBall job etc. but alot has happened in the last few years here with new state of art facilities ( the guys and girls can actually schedule their classes like a normal student and practice on more normal hours) , positive SMU publicity, special student/athlete admits here at SMU,etc. to make it more of a level playing field as JJ said. The Womens team is on the way up to much better levels ( the recruiting classes are way better than Rhonda could ever have hoped and even she will tell you it's much easier for her to recruit nowadays compared to 5 years ago when Doh was originally hired) and coaches can see what is happening here big picture wise. Its not as much a Bball graveyard anymore, still some hurdles obviously, but the Doh era doesn't look like it can take off.

The right coach will put all the
graveyard for mens bb, hated in AAU circles,
overblown comments to bed.
It's not that complicated
