"Matt Doherty – There are too many good high school programs and players in the middle of Dallas and the surrounding areas for Doherty’s SMU squad to be this bad. The Mustangs are 4-6 with zero wins against quality opponents. Doherty – the former Notre Dame and North Carolina head coach – entered the season with a 33-58 career record at SMU. Athletic director Steve Orsini needs to make a change after the season and hire Billy Gillispie. He’s a changed man, and the perfect fit for this job." - yahoo.com

I just don't know what else to say here...! As much as I want him to be successful at SMU, I think recent losses might put the end of Doh's tenure here...

here come the Gillispie-haters out of the woodwork...personally, i say doh needs to go and BG would be a great fit, certainly couldn't be any worse!

33-58? Is that a typo? 25 games under .500. And now 26 games under through today. wow. Not sure what Dement was but I think i saw in the DMN the other day that Tubbs was 27-30 in his 2 years here, only 3 games under 500. Doh is making Dement and Tubbs look like John Wooden and John Thompson.

Losing all 3 games in Hawaii might have been the best thing that could have happened for this program. National exposure on ESPN, then Gottlieb's comments & now Yahoo.
Interesting comments from Yahoo re: local recruiting. Seems like the only ones that don't understand how important it is to recruit locally are Doh, Lutz & PonyDoh :P

Hopefully we can get a few more logs on the fire with a little Andy Katz & a front page column from the DMN discussing this issue.

lol, I care about players, not locations. FWIW, we're on everyone in the top 20 in texas in '11. By far the biggest local effort so far under doh

CUSA seems to be a haven for giving coaches who have fallen from grace another shot. That was the case with Doherty, so I guess we should not rule out Gillespie if a change is eventually made. I would hope we'd go another direction, though.

You don't know much about Lutz if you don't think he understands how important it is to recruit locally.

I couldn't root for Gillespie, he's a horrible human being. Doh is just a hard [deleted] and a bad coach. Billy Clyde lacks in every area you judge a mentor of kids.

How about zero? -- did he beat Tulsa once? Seriously can't think of any of the top of my head.

Wasn't his first home game at Moody a win over Dayton? I could be mistaken but I remember having pretty high hopes after one of his first games at SMU.

Here is my shot at the quality win list and I am being very generous.......

First Year: Illinois State, Dayton, TCU (Dez's shot at the buzzer)

Second Year: TCU, UTEP (Double OT win)

Third Year: None

This Year: None
