Just an Observation

I find it absolutely amazing on the coverage, fan participation and overall support of one of the more successful programs at SMU which is Womens basketball. I come on here and I see multiple threads about a Mens program that will never turn the corner until you get a coach in here that knows how to recruit in Texas and a viable system that is entertaining. Multiple complaints on the origin of the problem and what needs to be done and virtually no discussion on a program that is actually winning. Hell, the radio coverage is for a losing program when the winning program is actually playing. You have one of the most successful senior classes to ever come through SMU now playing and there is no coverage on this board or excitement. Had not Delisha Wills got injured you would have three 1,000 point players on the same team, the eventual top 3 point shooter of all time to ever lace them up for SMU in JB Samuels, one of the top assist, and steals player in program history Brittany Gilliam to lace them up for SMU and there are those on this board complaining about Womens basketball being mentioned. Needless to say I get it when it comes to the interest however I always thought that winning trumphs gender especially if you have solid players in action.
This Saturday is the first of many Big games this season for this team. This is for basic sole possession of 2nd place on a quest of a third consecutive berth for post season tournament play. Damn is there anything that residents or alumni of the Hilltop get excited over beside the much needed resurgence of a dead Football program and complaints about a losing mens basketball program? Here's a concept how about supporting a program that actually is winning? This team will be on Espn2 when they play Houston here at Moody in Feb and for once it would be nice to see some Hilltop support in attendance. Just an observation from a sports fan!!

I was thinking the opposite. I can't believe how many people care about women's hoops around here.

There's something to be said for a consistent winner.
I'm looking forward to both games.

Because it's women's basketball.

Hey, Rhonda's program has been the most consistent here since the 1990s -- several NCAA tournament appearances and a couple of WNITs. So they deserve the respect they've earned.
My only frustration is that I have not made it over to Moody to go see them and can't this weekend.
And bigtime, congrats to Jillian for surpassing 1,000 points. We need her to be big-time from the perimeter -- AND NO MORE STREAKINESS!

I support the Lady Mustangs but in all honesty, it is just from a school obligation, wish it were different, but I just hate watching women's basketball. While the line "because its women's basketball" sounds bad at face value, its true for many.
No disrespect to the Ladys and I am happy they are doing well, but I don't like watching women play basketball, I would go to a matchup of an 0-20 SMU men's team against an 0-20 NAIA school instead of watching the women play a tournament game, yeah I suck, but that is the way it is, and is for many.
Wish we had a separate board for women's basketball, that way those who support them feverishly would have a place all to their own and would not have to worry about cross talk.

Given the chance, I go to every SMU game — men's and women's — but when I have a busy week and can't make every game, it's getting harder and harder to skip the women's games. They play hard, and they win.

Heh, good point, but I am actually looking forward to the Houston Baptist game, we need to keep the momentum going. This is going to be a fun week, Two, hopefully winnable, conference games coming up on Wednesday and Saturday. Take these next three and we are .500 overall and in conference with a lot of basketball left.
Lets sweep this homestand!
