Predictions for Final Record

Postby Harry0569 » Sat Jan 30, 2010 10:40 pm

@USM, @TULN, UTEP, @HOU, RICE, @ MEM, @ECU, HOU, @TLSA, MRSH

I say best case scenario, we beat USM, TULN, UTEP, RICE, @ECU, MRSH (6-4) Worst case scenario wins at TULN, RICE, @ECU (3-7). Realistically, I think we win 5-5 (wins against USM, TULN, RICE, @ECU, UTEP), and head into the tourney with an 8-8 conference record.

Thoughts?

Thought I'd bump this. After watching the game tonight, I believe our final record will be 13-17.

Not bad RGV, but you are forgetting our 1st round loss in the tourney...how about 13-18

my view of this season has become pretty simple. After beating Memphis we were 10-10. Not good, but the Memphis win was either going to springboard us to a winning season or not. Anything over .500 for the year and i think we consider the season a mild success and a nice turnaround. Anything under .500 and its just another losing season with a fun win against Memphis sprinkled in. My guess is we finish exactly .500 and Doh will proclaim the season a huge success because we were "so close" to a couple more wins. By the way, i want Doh to be positive and encouraging to the team, but anybody else cringe when hearing on the post game shows how good we really are because we played badly and only lost by a few? The only time close losses mean anything are if you play a truly high quality team down to the wire on the road. All other close losses, either at home against good teams or on the road against weak/average teams are fools gold. Possible exception is if you have a truly young team which we really don't.

completely agree... At the end of the day, it doesn't matter whether you lost by one or by 30, it's still a L for your record. Do I think we should have a much better record? Of course! Add those few losses by a couple points and the season is looking really good (TCU, UAB, CoC, UTEP comes to mind). But I hate all those "should've, could've, would've" excuses... Loss is a loss, no matter how you want to spin it... and that's all it matters...

rack you're a big man that played under more than one regime...what do you think the deal is w/ Kwiat? Is it a system thing now that we're becoming a matchup zone team?

TK can't play, it's not a secret. He's on schedule to graduate and we have 13 ships. Good teams trim their rotations to 8 or 9, so it's not like the kid is a miss. He was brought here b/c he's big and programs will take a flyer on upside. Beyond that, we hooked up Lee Academy, so they returned the favor by hiding Vilde and not allowing him to be recruited. He's a legit 4 star type kid, and had power conferences stopping by w/regularity to check out the roster. When they inquired about Vilde, which they did early and often, the folks at Lee said he's SMU's, back off. Huge coup, b/c he's stashed up there w/Keith Davis(A&M) and kicks his [deleted] daily. An AAU program I'm friendly with stashed Maxie Esho up there this year, and they rave about Vilde.

This team is on the right track, but the have some glaring roster needs. I think we've addressed many of them in '10, but we still need a PG, not a lead guard. A kid like Haynes is a pretty good perimeter defender and a capable rebounder from the 2, but he has no killer instinct on O, or a skill to fall back on and get points. Simply, we need more from that spot. In the one that got away file, we would be so much better if Jared Dubois hadn't reneged. We could really use a cold-blooded SG.

To be honest, McCoy's regression is the single biggest reason we aren't 3-5 games better. I'm not sure how folks will try and pin that on the staff, but he was a preseason 1st team all-league selection. He doesn't even start for us now, and rightfully so. It's unlike anything I've ever seen

Lastly, it's premature to give up on Clink. That kid has skills on O. He absolutely has no conscious when launching, and is only a soph. Walker has played some good minutes this year, but he plays scared. Clink has no fear, but lacks experience and a complete understanding of the systems. when he gets that down, he'll score for us a bit

We've had back to back 20 loss seasons - under .500 now - and we're on the right track?

angryfan, you are the master of the drive-by, but discuss nothing. look at where the roster is going and who we're in on. Look at the system in place now, both offensively and defensively. These are recipes for success in CUSA. The program should have had traction sooner, nobody is denying that. However, it has some solid footing now, including the new staff. Roughly, It's also achieving the results must of us who truly follow, set for the program this year. I'm not discouraged at all
