Need another Red Out vs UTEP

Postby Pony_Fan » Sun Feb 07, 2010 2:13 pm

UTEP beat Tulsa last night - 73-59. Tulsa had a lot of trouble w/ their traps and defense.
UTEP had pretty good point distribution. Our d better step up big.

UTEP and Tulsa were locked in a close one until one point in the 2nd half when UTEP switched to a full-court press. The Miners blew it wide open as Tulsa had a hard time breaking the press. Seeing how much trouble we had with Tulane's press and USM's press before that, I think we need to work extra hard in practice on breaking the press if we want to have a shot at beating UTEP.

that UTEP-Tulsa game was sold out. Turn up the fire on the press, get some turnovers and a big crowd behind you can feed into a lot more.

If we don't have another red-out, we at least need another excellent student showing like we saw vs. Memphis.

Tulsa isn't a good ball handling team from what I have seen. Buzoh was 8 assist with 5 TO's - he is pretty good but I don't see him as a great ball handler. Good points producer. Their offense gets as ugly as ours sometimes.

We had 20 TO's against Tulane so it's time to protect the ball..

We came within four points of UTEP on their floor when we weren't playing nearly as well as we are now. Sure, they might have had a bad game, too, considering some of the good wins they've had this year. But I'm not convinced winning is out of the question.

Be there, be early, and BE LOUD. The atmosphere in the Memphis game was awesome — if we can generate something like that again, we might have a chance to upset the Miners.

Slow 'em down and hope they don't hit a bunch of 3's on us. Go Papa!
