Alice Severin Named To Conference USA All-Academic Team

March 4, 2010

IRVING (SMU) - Alice Severin was one of six players named to the 2010 Conference USA All-Academic Team, the league office announced Thursday. The senior post player has a 3.71 GPA in psychology and biology, which is the third highest GPA of all players nominated.

Severin is third in the conference, shooting 52.5-percent from the field, and her 35 blocks ranks fourth in the league. She is averaging 6.3 points per game and 5.1 rebounds per contest this season. The Allen, Texas native helped guide the Mustangs to a third-consecutive 20-win season.

Rice senior Tara Watts was named to the team for the third time, UAB junior Amanda Peterson earned her second honor, and East Carolina junior Kim Gay, Houston sophomore Roxana Button and Tulsa sophomore Tiffani Couisnard each earned their first award to round out the team.

Severin and the Mustangs will played in second round of the 2010 GMC Sierra C-USA Championship Tuesday in Tulsa, Okla.

Congrats to Alice on all she has accomplished. She's really been one of our unheralded players, alot of what she does for this team on defense doesnt show up in the stat sheets. Hopefully she'll be back in the lineup tonight.

Don't take for granted what she does on offense, either. She doesn't score a hell of a lot, but the Ponies get a lot of points from scorers who get shots because Alice sets better screens than anyone on the team.
