A lot of NBA scouts are here — word is there are 18 NBA teams with scouts here (plus two teams with GMs in attendance). One is some guy named Pat Riley.
He's sitting near me, so I can only assume he's here to pick my brain for my opinions and insights.

Freshman center Hassan Whiteside — 7 feet, leading the country in blocked shots (I think). A lot of folks think he goes pro after this year, and could be taken in the top five or 10 picks, maybe even as high as second overall.

Wait — Riley isn't here to see Whiteside. He's just here to learn my philosophy of basketball. Weren't you paying attention???

I learned at halftime that Whiteside broke the Marshall CAREER blocked shots record in January ... of his freshman year.

Riley just left, with 2:29 to go. Guess he just can't absorb any more of my basketball expertise in one evening.

Whiteside had 23 blocks in two games this year against UCF. Three tonight.

At least 15 of those scouts made the drive up from the Baylor-UT game. They got to see a ton of talent today. I sure hope they advise Whiteside to stay in school one more year, but I wouldn't be one bit surprised if he came out after this season.

Watched about 5 minutes of the TAMU/Oklahoma game on TV at OU. Arena was empty and for a fleeting moment I thought it was an SMU game at Moody. We are not the only alums questioning the direction of a program although OU has had good teams recently.

knew it was not the usual evening when I parked on Binkley between limos. Whiteside really has great footwork going for him along with the ability to combine the block with starting the fastbreak.
