Roster '10- '11

Postby PonyDoh » Tue Mar 09, 2010 2:30 pm

Didn't put a ton of thought into actual positions, but if TK were to graduate early, this is the 13 man roster, if we get Jon Loyd. Thoughts?

PG- Paul McCoy, Jon Loyd
SG- Pats, Haynes
SF- Smith, Harp
PF- Nyakundi, Otis
C- Papa Dia, Vilde, Luttman
combo- Clink, Walker
“When I first committed to SMU, I thought it would take a couple of years of building. But with these players coming in, we should make a run. We have a lot of heavy hitters. It could get real ugly for a lot of teams we play.”- Jalen Jones

Though I will remain hopeful, it just doesn't jump out at me as a very much improved team. More depth, yes, but not much more 'impact'.

I see it a bit differently, as it has more size, passing, shooting and rebounding. Also, I'm familiar w/Jon Loyd and I prefer him over DWill 10 times out of 10, if we're just talking about winning. I like all our PG prospects actually, except 1.

absolutely b/c I'll consider the hunt for a PG a pseudo-failure, despite the kid being good down the road. We need an impact PG now, and that kid doesn't address the need, as a starter until he's an upperclassman

PonyDoh: What do you think is chance we land Loyd? And, if not Loyd, can you give names or schools of other PG's we are pursuing?

50/50 on Loyd, if he doesn't get a UNLV or high major ship between now and signing

Several other PG prospects will come out in the next couple of weeks, but the ones that have already been mentioned are Jon Loyd & Evan Roquemore of Las Vegas etc. We have interest in Calvin Newell, not sure if it's being returned. 3 or 4 others, one a de-commit from a solid progrom, another from Chicago, and another in the NE prep league. That's 6 kids right there, albeit vaguely referenced.

.500 (maybe) Just don't schedule Texas State - that would ruin our chances.

Not sure, but Evan had a very nice season, 23 pts per and region POY. 31 vs Findlay, Had multiple 40 pt performances etc. Smart kid and athletic etc. Had a nice Reebok Camp too.

I'd like to see Haynes get some time at the 3 if we match up small; he plays good D and has shown he can slash. He really has to work on his shot to get minutes at the 2. He's also a liability with that FT shooting

That makes sense. Haynes just won't pull the trigger, but he's probably our best perimeter defender. He's active on the glass too. Smith brings some 4/3 versatility. Muscle smaller guys, go by bigger guys. Mid range jumper.
