Doherty Has to Go

Postby shadowman » Wed Mar 10, 2010 11:29 pm

Hate to say it, I saw Doh take baby steps this year, but in our most important game, he took about 10 giant steps back. Time to tear it down and start all over. Need a coach that can recruit locally, has a positive attitude and checks his ego at the door.

We have to fire him or extend him, its Orsini's call, it would be suicide to let a coach go into the final year of a contract with no gaurantees.

I guess SMU needs to ask itself if it's better off than it was 4 years ago

In the words of Mike Cavan most on this board (excluding me) would say "I've had enough"

He can't get the job done, its that simple. There HAS to be a better option out there. 4 seasons under .500 and $2 million later Orsini must realize this. The media sees it, the few fans see it, if Orsini can't then something is seriously, seriously wrong...

This is 2nd hand info, so take it as such. People I know say that Doherty has told them that he has a 7 year deal. That his original contract included a clause that automatically gave him a 2 year extension if renovations to Moody werent completed before his 4th year (not including Crum, Moody specifically). If this were true, then he already has an extension.

Again, take this as 2nd hand, I cant vouch for the veracity of these statements, it's just what I've heard.

I've heard the same thing from other "sources" as well. While I agree 100% that he needs to go, I'm afraid it ain't happening. I think it would take something drastic to get him out of here.

Well, guess we have Doh for 3 more years at least then. Yipee! . I will say when he came in, he generated some buzz and got the Crum center built and a new floor, and I give him props for that, too bad he couldn't sniff out a team in all those years though.

Sadly, I fully agree that no change will be made and we have to hope for the best with Doh.

Actually, that is a very good point, that is one hella nice scoreboard, wouldn't that count as a moody renovation? Maybe Steve-O has some wiggle room!

Wow, if that's true then I'm impressed that someone would base a contract extension on how much money can be spent on the man instead of what kind of results he produces on the court. My oh my, Steve O...
