Some mind boggling Doh quotes for you: "I'm excited about where the program is," Doherty said. "We played a very difficult nonconference schedule. Maybe that wasn't the wisest thing to do. If we were 17-14, people would feel totally different about things. I see the progress."
"I knew it wasn't a quick fix," he said. "It's my job to know the market... It's not like there was a sense of a program here."
This is the way they are going to spin this??? Ugh. http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/spt/colleges/smu/stories/031210dnsposmuhoops.3f673ab.html

I cannot even begin to comprehend that quote...I am so shell shocked and disgusted in his agenda driven spin control. This non-conference schedule was so difficult we literally played 4 schools I have never even heard of (Huston-Tillotson?, North Carolina Central?, Florida Gulf Coast?, Houston Baptist?)...along with a few more cupcakes that I've heard of but are somewhat embarrassing to have on the schedule (6'5 and under Army team, Texas State-twice!, Occidental). I am so disgusted right now. Before this season I at least liked Doherty as a person even though I was greatly upset with the lack of results. But now I don't like him as a coach and I can't even respect him as a person when he is throwing complete BS like this against the wall. If "its not like there was a sense of a program here" before then what have we become under Doherty now??? An irrelevant program with 4 consecutive losing seasons that is paying an arm and a leg for a leader thats a better politican then coach. How pathetic.

I thought this was an Obama quote.

You're right - Doherty's coaching regime jumped the shark after this quote.

Tough games, TCU, A&M, South Florida, UNLV, College of Charleston (certainly tougher than last year's schedule, but let's get this straight we didn't play Duke, Georgetown, Syracuse, Kansas, UT, Kentucky or any really tough teams). Forgot to add Northeastern to the cupcakes we lost to. Funny thing was that we played better against tougher teams than against the cupcakes. Watch our schedule next year, it will be pathetic. If I see Galludet on the list (a school for the deaf and blind), I'll wet myself.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

we need to collect these idiotic comments. unreal. I can't remember all the stupid ones this year.
I will say this and have said it numerous times. The real McCoy makes this a little different season but I'm not sure we'll ever see that again.

I agree that the schedule needs to be bulked up, no denying that. However, that's really not a bad OOC list, we just need to replace the NAIA teams w/some legit mid majors from the MWC, WCC etc. Northeastern has been pretty good recently as well. I'd love to se us go after Utah St, Northern Iowa, VCU or teams like that as well. Taking on the Dooks of the world doesn't do much for us, unless we have a punchers chance. Let's play competitive ball vs competitive programs, not accrue easy Ws or take easy Ls

This. We definitely played up and down to our opponents this year.

ludicrous. Any sympathy i had for Doh is evaporating. This program was better by far in the 10 years before he got here. Dement's run looks like the glory days compared to Doherty. In fact, put em head to head, and Dement's team in his fourth year would run Doh's by 20 points. Both started at a standstill but Doh probably had more schollies to work with sooner too.

The schedule was better this year but not where it needs to be. Too bad Northwestern didn't come to Dallas. Doh's comments are total BS. 2 road games @ Occidental & Texas State. Add North Texas, UTA & a Baylor & drop the NAIA's & D2's.

I'd much rather see St Mary's or someone over North Texas or UTA. Also, how about a power conference outside the Big 12. Let's play a Pac 10 team or something

Don't really blame ya for not wanting to play North Texas and UTA. With your annual lost to TCU, you'd be guaranteed an ofer (0-3) record vs metroplex teams.
