IT was fun to watch...and a lot of people filed into Moody in those days to watch. I'm with him on those comments about having more butts in the seats and seeing SMU become a program everyone talks about. Everything is cyclical, right?

Growing up in HP, I went to all the SMU home games in the mid late 70's. Man those were fun teams to watch and Moody was an exciting place to be during SMU home games. That article brought back some names I had not heard mentioned in a long time. Thanks, Mr. Pony for posting the link.

By the way, does anyone know what Sonny Allen's son, Billy, is up to these days? That guy could pass a basketball.

Why? One of the all time greats at SMU and a tireless supporter of the program. I have been following SMU basketball for over 45 years and the IT years rank right up there at the top.

I really think that the standard for retiring jerseys should be really high. I love Sasser and Q, but would hope that we never retire their jerseys. I think we need to expect more for that type of honor, ie final four appearance or at the very least play a pivotal role on 4 consecutive NCAA tourney bids.

Neither Sasser or Davis should be mentioned in the same sentence as Ira Terrell.

Correction: Reuben Triplett was a forward not a Guard

Here's a list of the 71-72 team:

1971-72 SMU Mustangs Head Coach: Bob Prewitt Richard Billik Larry Delzell Rick Fleetwood Mike Holyfield Clayton Korver David Miller Denny Pertle Steve Putnam Bobby Rollings Zachary Theil Ruben Triplett Jack Trout John Tuszynski Assistant Coaches: Mike Pinkham, Neal Kinlund & Lynn Phillips Trainers: Eddie Lane & Gary Jaffa Manager: Joe Parks

The Guards were Billik, Delzell, Bobby Rollins, and Zach Thiel. That's my Final Answer.
