The End of "Mid-Major" term?SMU...2nd to None
Re: The End of "Mid-Major" term?I doubt the term disappears anytime soon but I do think we are getting closer to the point where the selection committee will recognize some of these "non-BCS" conferences are a lot deeper than just their champion. Big East made a great case this year for not "over inviting" the big boys. Meanwhile, the A-10 is having to settle for owning the NIT.
I didn't see this year's committee put as much emphasis on those last 10 games, which of course can be deceptive, because not many of those games are played "out of conference"
Re: The End of "Mid-Major" term? It's great to see these BCS conferences go down in hoops. Big East was a flop in the tourney.
March Madness is much more fair across the board than stupid bowls - when a Butler and No. Iowa can make it this far.
Re: The End of "Mid-Major" term? Here is a thoughtful companion piece from the Onion:
NCAA Tournament Proving That Mid-Major Semi-Upper-Lower-Middle-Mids Should Be Taken Seriously: http://www.theonion.com/articles/ncaa-tournament-proving-that-midmajor-semiupperlow,17154/ The article is a little long, but when I saw the title of this thread, I could not resist posting it.
