This might be old news, and if so, sorry for re-posting. Just saw this note on the Washington Post's website:

Gilbert Arenas, Andray Blatche, Al Thornton, Nick Young, JaVale McGee and Quinton Ross are the only players under contract next season, with Ross informing the team several weeks ago that he fully intends on picking up in player option for the 2010-11 season.

Wizards are going to be wild w/Wall & Arenas in the same backcourt. Arenas is going to score a ton, though

Not sure what they are going to do with Gilbert A. They have of course been shopping him but his huge contract makes that near impossible. But I agree if they keep him, they can move him from 1 to 2 and let Wall dish. Blatche finally showed his potential. They also have two later first round picks that can be used for developmental big men (you know like Koncak).

Contract and gun charge make Arenas impossible to trade for anything of real value. WIth that contract, they might not be able to give him away, so that's not happening.

Besides, way back when Arenas was actually playing games, they talked about playing him with another point guard in order to take a lot of the ball-handling responsibilities away from him, so he could get in position to score more. Hello, John Wall.

Technically, their two later picks are 30th (last in the first round) and 35th .... but that's close enough to call it a late first. Rumor mill says they're actively trying to trade up. We'll see.

With so few veterans returning, it sure would be nice to see The Q get more playing time next year.

Traded for Yi Jianlian, who I realize is 7 feet tall and was a first-round pick, but he has been woefully inconsistent in his brief career. My guess is that Washington will regret this trade. Besides, Q said he would pick up his player option, which suggests he actually wanted to play in D.C. — not too many players out there who would say that these days.

admittedly, I'm a beaten down Bullets fan since birth. That said, you have to find what they're doing this offseason really interesting, if not bizarre. They basically had a ton of cap space heading into next year, where they would have a legit shot at hometown kids like Melo and Durant. Instead, they are using that cap space to acquire picks & players. They haven't given up anything, and they've acquired Yi & Kirk Hinrich, not to mention drafted Wall, Seraphin, Trevor Booker etc. Meanwhile, the Caps owner, ted Leonsis, now owns the Zards as of early July.

I'm sure they're going to do everything humanly possible to unload Arenas. Won't be that hard, cause he's going to score like 27 ppg at SG. Wall & Arenas are unguardable, which doesn't translate to wins, just some nice highlights. They're already discussing moving him for Vince Carter, or some other expiring contract. Strange times in DC
