<Looks like its going to be a homecoming for Highland Park star Troy Alexander. The kid that was once destined to be the next Steve Nash, has since left Santa Clara and will officially join the SMU basketball team this fall.>

I'm thinking this year, as a walk-on. We have some nice walk-ons this year

did we pull off a trade? could totally see McCoy at Santa Clara. Alexander would be a nice walkon and good lockerroom guy. I hesitate to call him a program guy because he did leave Clara to find easier playing time. He is pass first almost to a fault though. As a senior in high school he really was no threat to shoot from the outside whatsoever. Almost looked like he didn't have the lift in his legs or strength to get off his jump shot. Can he drive to the paint and dish in D-1?

I'm happy w/the kid if he's a reliable ball handler vs full court man pressure, and knows where to go vs the zone press. Same can be said of JFrog. Value the ball, get the offense working, shoot and convert if they dare you.

as for our zone O, let's just hope we actually have one next year, cause the modified princeton is a disaster vs zones.

If this report from Texashoops is accurate, Doh should burn. No way Alexander should get a ship. None. IF he was offered a ship, the other transfer if probably not going to be admitted. Awful

"Highland Park standout, Troy Alexander went to the west coast to Santa Clara and has made a decision to return down the street where he grew up and played. Alexander will have to sit out a year, but will have two years remaining at SMU."

I think you have to sit out a year whether you are on 'ship or not.

Interesting. I was always under the impression that you didn't sit out if you walked on. I have no idea, I've never once looked it up. Either way, as long as the kid's a walk-on, great pick up. Not so much if he gets a ship.

I'm sweating the other transfer and Vilde at this point.

Here is the rulebook if anyone is interested. I didn't see it make an exception for sitting out based on being a walkon player, but I could be wrong.

I am really curious about the other transfer. Also, I assume Smith and Pats are in good shape if you are only sweating out Vilde?

I think you were right, Alexander has to sit no matter if he has a ship or not. I've long been under the impression that he would not get a ship, so the thought of him getting me, set me off. That said, he's walking on.

The other transfer has been admitted, but not released from his previous school. I'm not here to break anyone's news, but we need to cheer for this kid to get his release. He'll help on the court and in the community.
