SMU women's basketball assistant coaches Deneen Parker and Danny Hughes were each inducted into their alma maters' hall of fame this weekend. Parker was honored for her superb career at Stephen F. Austin, which included two trips to the NCAA Tournament's Sweet 16. Hughes was recognized for his two playing seasons and two coaching stints at Trinity Valley Community College.
Parker, who is a member of the Ladyjacks' 1,000-point club, was a two-time Southland Conference Player of the Year career. She is still ranked 11th in SFA school history in scoring with 1,506 points and third all-time in steals. During her career, Parker helped guide SFA to a 110-16 overall record, four NCAA tournament appearances and four top-20 finishes.
Hughes and the Cardinals were 44-15 in his two seasons as a player from 1985-87. As a sophomore, he averaged 14.6 points and 4.5 assists per game to earn the team's Most Valuable Player honor. He was also named all-region and all-conference and was selected to play in the National Junior College All-Star Game.
