Key Player(s) for SMU to Succeed

Thoughts?

We are going to really miss Dwilliams manning the point, and there is tons of pressure on Jfrog as a true frosh to come in. I think if he plays within himself and does not turn it over too much, I will be happy.

I think the two key players are Rob and Justin Haynes. Rob is finally healthy and can flat out shoot the rock. He will keep the D spread out, which will let Papa dominate the paint.

Justin has the ability to attack the basket on a consistent basis. I want to see him with that killer instinct. Take the ball to the hoop, draw the foul, or make the lay-up.

Mother of God, who is playing the point? Clinscales?

you'll see a ton of Frog at point, probably Walker/Clink as well. Some strange rumors about Haynes handling the ball a bunch as well.

Yikes! just forgot where we were on this.

And then everybody was wondering why Doherty put together the cupcake OOC schedule.

BTW, Doh, I guess the DMN story shed more light as to the reasons why that Eastern European kid and the Virgin Islands kid are probably out of action this year.

Is everyone forgetting about Ryan "instant offense" Harp??? kidding...I am looking for Rob Nyakundi to fill it up from 3...

Im not as high on Clink as you are PonyDoh...dude is a 6 foot shooting guard who cant really create his own shot...i hope his handle improved in the offseason...Walker and Clink are basically the same type of player, should be interesting to see who earns those minutes. What a tiny backcourt we have any way you slice it..Jfrog/Clink or Jfrog/Walker or Walker/Clink. Im assuming Haynes is the 3, is that correct.or is he in the mix at 2?

I really have no idea what you mean. The status of Vilde/Smith & Pats has been well-documented for months, and in appeals forever. Vilde isn't playing b/c of international transcripts, Pats probably played w/pro's(every good euro does), and Smith is getting screwed

So are those three for sure out this year?

I feel like Nyakundi will have a nice year. Just a gut feeling.

Nuk and Dia are obvious choices, but I think we need huge improvement from Haynes and Walker to be successful this year

Better check that gut. His start is not nice. Hopefully it is just one off night.

I think he's being asked to play too many positions; he's rotated from 3 to 4 to 5 tonight and doesn't sound like he's found any comfort zone

Would "success" mean winning a game this year?

my definition of a successful season with this schedule and roster would be playing.500 ball. I suppose after last night's showing I might need to lower my expectations and define success as playing .500 ball at Moody...in front of at least 1500 fans?

All five starters (Wills, Elliott, Day, Christian and Filmore) need to play well, and they can. They showed flashes yesterday, but they were inconsistent.
