Question: what will be the likely starting 5 next year

I don't follow SMU basketball much due to the lack of success the last ten years but I think I may jump on board next year and really get into the program again. Can someone tell me what the starting 5 will likley look like next year? I know we have a bunch of new players coming in and I am particularly excited about the Texas transfer that played at Duncanville. Thanks to anyone with some insight.

Cotton Giles
Losha Patsevich
Leslee Smith
Robert Nyakundi
Ricmonds Vilde

Shawn Williams, the Duncanville kid you referenced, comes available in late December, I believe. From every single report I've gotten, he's a catch'n'shoot tweener w/slow feet. He'll help quite a bit, but he never should have gotten a UT ride, and those expecting all conference numbers, might need to temper those expectations.

Along with the starting five who will be the coach next year. We have 12 games left and have 10 wins. Will a 16 win season keep Doh.

so on the bench will be Williams, Cunningham, Manuel, and Jones.

So is Jfrog the backup point?

welcome to the bball board :D

Certainly a tricky situation. Is this Doh's last year of the contract or does he have another year?, I get confused on this. Time for a real coach who can take the guys to the next level.

Wishful thinking. I imagine we will continue to tread water.

Either Jfrog or Manuel at back-up PG, I'd think.

Jfrog
Manuel/Clink
Williams
Jones
Cunningham

Eric Norman

forgetting someone too

This isn't his last year. The debate seems to be if it's next year or the year after. Either way, I'm not thinking you guys are watching the games, cause this particular team is playing above their heads/talent level. They execute very well offensively, and the new systems look very solid. It's absolutely on Doh that we're talentless this year, but all he has to do is invite Orsini & Turner to practice, and I'm sure that seat gets a bunch less hot.

IF next years talent runs the system as well as this years batch of misfit toys, we're looking pretty

They need another big in the rotation if you ask me. Cunningham is rail thin, sorta a Patrick Simpson type. That said, Jones & Smith rebound really well. Also, they definitely want Manuel to run his fair share of PG. That's what he's playing this year in high school, Doh mentioned in the release, and it's verified by current and former assistants

For next season only 2 guys (on paper) taller than 6'8". I agree another big man is needed in this rotation but is there a space left for scholarship? Norman is listed 6'6" to 6'8" depending on publication so no idea his size or place on the court in this line up.

Yea, big man depth is a concern, especially cause both Cunningham and Norman arent mature physically, and in both cases have a soft-ish rep. Not sure where the ship comes from for another big, but I know papawasamustang really likes Cheikh Mbodji at Grayson CC. Big athletic kid that can run. Having a very nice year. Staff is aware of him.

Also, Leslee is widely regarded as being a 4 in this system, so the depth chart for bigs probably looks more like Nyuk/Vilde/Smith/Cunningham. Smith has slimmed down a ton, but he showed up to the Hilltop 6'7 255. Luckily, we have length in Jones/Williams/Haynes coming off the bench on the wings. That enables us to bump Leslee to the 4, even Nyuk to the 3 etc. Lots of options when you have a slew of 6'7 kids that will board
