yea, good pick-up if he ever finds the floor. NCAA is all over that guy for tampered transcripts.

More likely that he goes to Europe for a year, plays ball, and proves himself to NBA teams that would have picked him up this year had he found the floor.

If there is no lock-out, I'd bet he declares. He's the type of athlete that could do very well in workouts like Rashad Lewis or Jonathan Bender

He'll test the waters for sure.

Europe has been on the table for him ever since the Shipp investigation delayed his graduation, and he hasn't done it. Zero indication that he has any desire to go over there, whereas sitting for 5 months waiting on Mizzou admittance and then enrolling at North Texas says he's pretty serious about spending at least a year in college if he doesn't declare this year.

If Mizzu can't get him on the floor...I don't see how he plays anywhere...

It's a no lose situation for UNT. If he plays, it's a great deal for them.
If he doesn't, it was certainly worth the risk.

I want to see SMU vs. UNT on the hardwood!

LOL, it's no lose on the court, but it pretty much affirms what some around here have said about the place as a school. I didn't have a frame of reference before, but talk about pooping on the academic mission statement. I'm willing to bet good money Mitchell doesn't know all the vowels

I don't know why, but for some reason I thought about Steve Spurriers quote below when I heard Mitchell was going to UNT.

In response to news of a library fire that destroyed 20 books at an Auburn University football dorm: "The real tragedy was that 15 hadn't even been colored yet."

I don't understand how he would be ruled eligible? Didn't the NCAA rule him ineligible or was it just Mizzou? I could probably read about this, but I'm lazy.

He is a partial qualifier. The Big 12 is only allowed to have full qualifiers. He has a lot of classwork to do at UNT before he is eligible to play.

He's more than just a partial qualifier, he's a flagged 10.1 kid. Essentially that means his transcripts are hot and tampered with. This is a profile kid all over the NCAAs radar for the wrong reasons. I've met him and he seems like decent kid, so I hope it works out for him. I have no ill will towards UNT either, as we don't play, so it's whatever in my mind. Beyond that, I despise the NCAA, and think Mitchell should be given the opportunity to prove his wares, so he can get paid to play. Otherwise, its just contributing to the cycle of stupidity.

I understand why a program takes a chance w/a kid that talented, but I'm not sure a small successful program such as theirs, really wants the negative glare associated w/Mitchell's 6 month to a year stint in Denton. It gets weirder if their version of JJ hauls to LSU

hasn't been partial qualifiers in a decade. He would be a non-qualifier who could not receive a scholarship. But like La Tech, Southern Miss, North Texas can get in-state kids in at lower state tuition because they actually have lower academic standards than even NCAA minimums apparently-an embarrassment. I think the NCAA does allow them to apply for federal student aid.
