Realy easy in the night games, we need:
Tulane over USM
ECU over Houston
Marshall over Memphis
UCF over UAB
Tulsa over UTEP
Some matter more than others, but those outcomes could very well happen and would be very nice for SMU

What a tremendous result, especially considering what the first part of the year was like. Congratulations to the team.

Southern Miss up 12 on Tulane at half.
Even though I would have liked Tulane to have won and gave us an immediate boost in the standings, this is not really bad, since we beat USM and lost to Tulane.
Sure USM will be a half game up in the standings today, but that moves Tulane down another notch and we will have our revenge against them at Moody here very soon. Plus we still have the same amount of losses as USM AND hold the tiebreaker.

Houston stomping ECU early, 20-8...no real suprise.
This game outcome is also fine either way. We still get another shot against Houston and play ECU coming up. Would be nice if ECU could come back, but not a necessity.

When in doubt pull for the team in CUSA west as we play that team twice.

Yep, I hear ya. Still though, we have lost at home (key point) to Houston and we do get our one game against ECU at home. I woulda really liked the pirates to take down the coogies.
No Worries though, we whup ECU, win in Houston, and all is good!

Southern Miss has this win in hand. Wish that Tulane game for us could have been a little bit later. They are shaking out as not a very good team, Yes, we did not play well, but I bet if we played them tomorrow in NO, we would stomp them.
Oh well, we get them one more time.

Southern Miss now 5-3 in conference play. One of their losses was a fluke, last second loss to Memphis in which they had a huge lead. Another one of their losses was to SMU, a 14 point blow out that was never really close.
Hmmm....How bout them ponies!

I like the fact that the opponents big men aren't very effective right now. Pretty good D.
EDIT: Wow, Kazemi actually had 21pts, 13 FT's. Went to the line 15 times! Ridiculous. 24 attempts to our 14. That dude was getting all the calls.
Kazemi with 6 TO's, Dia with 5. Would love to see Dia reduce those traveling calls - stupid.

Dia did have a few bad/stupid TO's today..but his season numbers are bit skewed. He went through a stretch early when the offense was not yet gelling of trying to thread tough passes through the lane on the back cuts. He had a lot of TOs from that. Very easy for a casual observer to look at the stats and say that Dia has "soft" hands or bad footwork.
Not the case, he catches the ball extremely well down on the blocks and he makes agressive moves. Yes, sometimes he gets called for walking, but its a fine line between between a great move and walking.
Like I said, today was a bit a-typical..but Dia the turnover machine, is a myth in my book. Very Solid player!
