I still say he needs a new nickname, but man, he has played well lately.

I admit, I wasn't a big fan at the beginning of the season. He looks shorter than advertised, but after the win over Tulane tonight, he has 84 assists and 42 turnovers. A 2-to-1 ration, especially for a freshman, is pretty good. He also leads the team with 30 steals, which is impressive for a shorter guy without great speed. He's quick, but not overly fast. His 3-point shooting percentage is up to .397 — very respectable.

At one point, I thought he was a wasted scholarship. I stand corrected.

It just took a little while for Samarripas to adjust to the college game. There are several wasted scholarships on the team however.......

I'll defer to those that know more, but they're on every team. They serve a purpose. That purpose is to be a warm body on the bench, go to class everyday, graduate on time with a good GPA, and don't do stupid crap that gets the SID out of bed at 3 AM with phone calls from the DMN about an arrest or public brawl.

Gotta admit when it was announced that he signed with SMU, I just felt a major drain. I looked at his height and thought, "Are you kidding?" I really thought this was a throw away signing and a signal that Doherty's days were numbered.

Seems like not only me but a lot of us missed about SMU basketball. I'm just thankful that they're competitive again. It's been far too long.

Far too often, we look at one's appearance and deem that they can't play XYZ sport. Some guys can just flat out play, and Jfrog is one of those guys. I'm glad we have him; he has been extremely valuable to this team.

I am most impressed with how his shot has improved. Early in the season, he could knock down a three every now and then, but inside the arc, he could not hit squat, even when he was wide open.

Now it seems, when he throws one up, its automatic, nothing but net.

He has been a difference maker. Put me on the skeptical list when he signed but this guy hustles and gets after it. Will be interesting to see what his role becomes when the "scout" team becomes eligible next year, but he has been a very pleasant surprise.

LOL, love me some Pigtails. The kid is soooo much more poised than I ever expected. Couldn't have been more wrong. Two glaring examples from last night were his helping Losh on the sideline, looked like a sure trap, Frog gets the ball, and has two blazing spin dribbles to clear the ball in traffic. The other was his crossover late, where he squirted baseline, to hit a wide open 12 ft'er.

He's going to be difficult to unseat, if only b/c he makes the O flow. He's a PG, not a combo, not a shoot first lead guard etc. That's a very rare commodity these days, and he's just not scared.

the one thing challenging for JFrog is when he faces a particularly athletic PG; sometimes he gets exposed on D. Saw this in the 2nd half vs Ole Miss and a couple of times last night...this usually leads to more Haynes in the game, which hasnt been the most productive lineup from an offensive point of view. JFrog's a good facilitator on offense though; I still wish I'd copied and pasted the comments from after the Memphis game in the Commercial appeal "they have a 5'8 PG who made our Mickey D's look like they were standing still"
