A Note Of Thanks From Coach Doh

To the student body,

I want to thank those who attended last night's Tulane game. You all made it happen again. The energy you gave us, especially in the second half, made the difference. You inspired our defense to play with great intensity and helped us beat Tulane.

We are one game out of first place as we play at UTEP on Saturday. I hope you all will come back for our remaining home games as we compete for the C-USA title.

Thanks for all you are doing for SMU Basketball.

Sincerely,

Coach Doh

Matt Doherty

I was just about to start a thread about doh. I know winning makes everything better for the fans, coaches, and players, but he is really different from last year. This is two games in a row where the game was on the line, it looked like we could win it, and he starts doing this little swaying dance in the middle of the huddle making the team laugh, loosen up, and also "sway".

Did anyone notice at the end of the game when one of the pledges (?) from a fraternity made a tunnel for the team to run thru as the went back to the locker room. Doh runs thru, stops and asks the kids to run back there with them to the locker room! I assume he took them back to "celebrate" with the team for a bit. Its a blast watching him and the students/team have fun with this.

He knows he has to engage the student body right now to keep them coming back, but I think he really enjoys it. You know when this picture was taken below, he never thought he would be having to do this much PR to get students to come to games and coach the crowd on how to behave for game day atmosphere. But again, I think a piece of him likes it. I have always wanted him to succeed and I hope he can keep this train moving forward.

Doh is the ultimate salesman. Judging by hearsay, press conferences, etc. Doh finally got it. He just needs to be the recruiter/CEO and let Hobbie and Mangino run the operations. I have had the pleasure of meeting/speaking with Doh plenty of times, and he is delightful to be around.

Let the good times roll.

..now, if he can just help us with a new hot dog warmer and renegociate the TP contract, we are in biz...

I have to admit, I really like the idea of Doherty the CEO/Salesman/Head Recruiter. If we've got the system and chemists down the coaching line to make it work, I'm excited. Imagine Doherty pitching SMU with a 17-20 win season, an extension, the Crum center, and tangible evidence that he's adapted and made some positive changes. If he can sell Cunningham on an empty trophy case...imagine what he can do with some momentum at this back and an influx of talent next year.

I doubt he actually updates it. A member of the SMU Athletics (the 1 person in pseudo marketing) updates June's twitter.

I think after the start of the season he got an unlisted Twitter.

Doh actually updates his Twitter himself. During the season, however, his tweets are more generic. The way he has begun to interact with the students is very uplifting and the students enjoy it. By investing his time in student lunches and during games to pump up the students, he will eventually create "moody madness" and future wins (stellar recruiting class and blue team) will certainly do wonders for the atmosphere and student involvement.
