Yup, that's the reason. Salt Lake Tribune broke the story tonight. A source with close connections to the program has confirmed that BYU star Brandon Davies was dismissed from the Cougars’ nationally ranked basketball team after he admitted to having sexual relations with his girlfriend, a violation of the school’s honor code.
Davies, a sophomore from Provo High, acknowledged his transgression to BYU officials on Monday.
Tuesday, the school owned and operated by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced Davies had been dismissed from the team but was being allowed to remain in school while his situation was under review by the Honor Code Office. http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/cougars/51 ... r.html.csp

I think it would have been fine if it had been any of his wives. It was the girlfriend thing.

I would presume that this policy has been in place for as long as the school has been standing. I think this happened to a football player last year.
Then there's the flipside. Some of us have probably heard about the business Jim McMahon was pulling when he was there. Urban legend or not, there were always stories about girls walking out of his dorm room at about 7 a.m. on a Saturday morning the day of a game.

SMU is not BYU. We forgive the transgressions of our students and student-athletes. And SMU has co-ed dorms. Does Doh have any schollies left? Note that BYU hasn't kicked him out of school for this. That would enable him to go to any school he wanted without sitting out a year. My bet is that he ends up at Utah.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

Pretty sure he would still have to sit a year if he stayed D1. If not there would be kids violating team rules all over the country whenever they wanted to transfer.

This is serious business at BYU. A couple of years ago a girl claimed she was gang raped, but later confessed that she had had consensual sex with a coule of guys and lied because she knew that she in violation of the HC when she did it and would be kicked out for it. For the most part, they don't mess around with kids who break this rule. Mitch McConnell wrote: Some of us have probably heard about the business Jim McMahon was pulling when he was there. And McMahon got kicked out of school his last semester and is still bitter about it: http://sportsbybrooks.com/byu-expelled- ... -hof-20774
