UTEP women's basketball take on SMU in opener

March 09--One of basketball's biggest cliches, which almost certainly wouldn't stand up to statistical scrutiny, is that it's hard to beat a team three times in a season.
"I was waiting for someone to ask me that," SMU coach Rhonda Rompola said with a laugh, as she was preparing her team to try to do just that at 7:30 p.m. tonight against UTEP in the opening round of the Conference USA Women's Basketball Tournament in Memorial Gym.
"We're playing a team we're familiar with, they are familiar with us," Rompola added. "The whole deal with three times, I'd rather play someone I'm more comfortable with."
