March Madness Is Back In Moody
SMU Accepts Postseason Bid

March 11, 2011

DALLAS (SMU) -The SMU men's basketball team is back in the post-season for the first time since 2000, as the Mustangs have accepted a spot in the 2011 CollegeInsider.com Tournament (CIT). SMU will host a home game on Wednesday, March 16, at Moody Coliseum against an opponent to be determined Sunday night.

"We are excited to be playing post-season basketball," said SMU head coach Matt Doherty. "I'm happy for our team and this great group of seniors and we're thrilled to have the opportunity to share this experience with our fans here at Moody. It will be great."

The CIT is a 24-team tournament that features 12 first-round games. Four of the teams that win first-round games will advance to the quarterfinals, while the other eight teams will play for the right to advance to the quarterfinals. Tickets are on sale now and start at just $10. To purchase, call the SMU Ticket Office at 214-SMU-GAME (768-4263) or click here.

SMU already has its highest win total (17) since 2002-03 and had its most league wins (8) in Conference USA. Three Mustangs earned Conference USA postseason honors. Senior forward Papa Dia was named Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year and was selected to the All-Conference USA First Team and Conference USA All-Defensive Team. Junior forward Robert Nyakundi was named to the All-Conference USA Third Team and senior guard Collin Mangrum earned selection to the Conference USA All-Academic Team.

PLEASE NOTE: Current SMU season-ticket holders should call the SMU Ticket Office as soon as possible to purchase their CIT tickets. Any unsold season tickets will be released to the public for sale at 4 p.m. on Monday morning.

Hearing rumors that Oral Roberts may be your opponent Wednesday night - ORU accepted a CIT invitation on Thursday, and will be a road team.

Outside of the North Texas Mean Green, hard to predict other mid-majors in the region that might fit the bill for playing at SMU.

A Southland team, perhaps?

If that's the case, Papa Dia is going to have a hard matchup with that 900-foot Jesus in the low block.

Remember when Oral said he saw that? It was around 1985 or 1986.

That matchup would make sense from a travel cost point of view.

Common opponents:
Tulsa...ORU lost to, 83-68
UALR...ORU defeated, 86-60.
Rice...ORU defeated, 80-78

And it looks likely that if we win (against Oral Roberts - probably opponent) that we'll probably have another game at home on Saturday. This could be awesome!

Has anybody heard when they announce the brackets - and if it is televised?
