I don't bump threads - but I know there was some discussion about him and St Johns this year.
Quite impressive considering Doh said something to the effect it was a terrible job. They beat Duke and Pitt this year.

Re: Levine / St Johns
I had posted ( under spacepony) what he had done and how maybe Doherty and Lavin's coaching paths had been similar in some respects, PonyDoh apparently just doesn't like Coach Steve personally. viewtopic.php?f=3&t=51279
Re: Lavin / St Johnswell, he's probably a Coach of the Year candidate. Pretty damn impressive if you ask me.
No idea what Lavin's MO is, but seems like a decent guy.
Re: Lavin / St JohnsThe scary thing about St John's is that Steve Lavin is not known as a regular season coach, but he is definitely clutch in the tournament. I would not be surprised to see St John's in the final four this season.
Re: Lavin / St Johns
Yeah but mustangxc have you seen his coaching staff? That's a lot of coaching expertise on that bench with Steve and guess what?...... Coach Doherty hasn't been known as a 'regular season coach' either, but seasoning and having some great basketball minds on the sideline with you makes one a lot smarter.
Lavin / St JohnsDead end job has best recurring class in the country coming in next year
Re: Lavin / St Johns
Heck he was only hired last May and they still had one of the best recruiting classes in the country with a short timing leash.....wasn't SMU a dead end job too?......similar issues, and can Doh pull it out?...time will tell. Beat ORU...then Creighton!!!
