ESPN’s Jay Bilas Rips NCAA Selection Committee

ESPN college basketball analyst Jay Bilas is normally a sourpuss the night of the NCAA Basketball Championship Selection Show, but he reached a whole new level of pessimism on Sunday night.

“I wonder if some people on the committee know whether the ball is round,” Bilas said on ESPN regarding the selections for the 68-team tournament. “That sounds harsh. But I’m wondering. These were bad decisions. They’re indefensible.”

Until the NCAA expands to a 346-team tournament, you’re going to have schools that were snubbed by the selection committee. This year’s list included Virginia Tech (shocker), Colorado, Boston College, Alabama and St. Mary’s.
“I’ve seen UAB play. I’ve seen VCU play,” Bilas added. “All of the teams on the ‘snub list’ should have gotten in before those two. All of them. There’s a reason none of us brought up UAB and VCU as having a chance to get in — and it’s because they had no chance to get in. The committee has gone against their own principles.”

Let’s just hope Bilas is passionate about the snubbed teams and isn’t letting out ESPN’s frustration regarding CBS Sports and Turner Sports winning the television rights to the NCAA Tournament.

I would almost suggest that one media member be present for these - I don't know how they go about selecting the committee. Maybe Orsini made a strong argument for UAB...haha.

One would think the decision to bounce UConn up three seeds form a 6/7 seed to a 3 seed would gather more attention. UAB/VCU bounced a team that was on the bubble out of the Tourney. Leapfrogging UConn so high means a deserving (not on the bubble team) got bumped down. So a might have made it didn’t make it. A for sure strong team just got wacked cause of one strong weekend’s work by UConn.

As bad as the selection process can be, it's really embarrassing to hear people from the "snubbed" schools complaining. That Vigina Tech coach yesterday was just pathetic.

Even if 96 schools were invited to the 'dance' ( which i see coming soon)...there will be schools bounced and not happy coaches.....

It's getting to the point where winning your conference doesn't matter anymore. These freakboys are completely de-valuing what that even means these days.

We're cheering mediocrity because CU and Va Tech had some big wins during the season. That was about it.

Seth Greenberg talked about people having an agenda. What a load of whooee. Tech beat some good teams, but lost to teams it shouldn't have lost to. And except for Penn State (early and at home) and Duke in conference (at home) it didn't beat a Top 50 team. Lost to K State and UNLV on the road. Lost to BC and to UVA. Inconsistent teams don't make the tournament. If you want to ensure a bid to the tournament win a conference. That's the only way we're going to get invited.

Moreover, it's no different than our 1992-93 team that won the SWC regular season championship, lost in the first round of the tournament 8th-seeded TCU and still received a bid because the committee recognized the accomplishment of doing something.

Why is Villanova in the tournament following the crash-and-burn end to its regular season? It freaking lost to horrible South Florida in the Big East tournament.

Everybody gets a bid when CTI expands to 48 teams.
Hey, why aren't VaTech, UNT and Colorado in the CIT?

not to mention Maryland...hoopmanx...what say you?
