NIT: UTEP at New Mexico

Tuesday night at 8 on ESPN or ESPN2 -- I think.

This should be a really good one. In the old WAC when UTEP and UNM were in it, these were pretty intense games regardless of whether it was The Pit or the Haskins Center.

I know the wisdom is to support the CUSA team. I can't do it.

I find UTEP to be like gum on my shoe -- very irritating. Plus, I'm tired of losing to those clowns.

Also, since I'm a Bob Knight homer, I'm also a Steve Alford homer. Go Lobos!

As a UNLV fan, you should always cheer against the Lobo's.

I hear you, but times have changed.

Go Rebels. Beat Illinois. I love Lon Kruger -- great coach.

some irony there.

Best former UTPA coach out there.

On another note..

growing up in NM, I watched many UTEP-UNM games, and later on NMSU-UNLV games...one of the most bizarre endings of a game I've ever seen was a UNM-UTEP game where it came down to free throws at the end, the UTEP guy missed, but was given another shot-which he made-because some idiot Lobo fan threw a paper cup across the court as he was shooting the missed shot.

The NMSU-UTEP is equally intense. I still think they do a home and home during the hoops season.

I was born in El Paso and my parents also lived in Las Cruces. My dad was on the booster club at NSMU when Lou Henson was there.

one of the NIT's best matchups, IMO. UNM has great fan support which allows them to buy home games right up until MSG; gives them a slight edge against UTEP

tough playing in the Pit. Don't we get the Lobos at the AAC next season?
