Overtime?

Okay, I was about as close to the refs and coaches as possible when they were explaining why we were going to overtime and clearly heard him apologize to Doh, "I referee the play not the sideline."
Here's where I'm really stumped. While I understand Doh called a timeout with about 4 seconds left and ran all the way down the court screaming at the ref to get his attention. When the clock finally stopped, there was 0.5 left. This time was never played out, they just went to overtime. How can the ref stop the clock, call the game, and just say, let's put five minutes on the clock and play overtime? Did Rich Philips or any other feed offer any insight on this?

The group I was with was wondering the same thing.
I've never seen them go straight to OT when there was still .5 on the clock in the arena, but I couldn't hear or tell what the coaches were told.

Im just glad they didnt call a T on Doh...He was sprinting out of the coaches box yelling at the ref, he had to have been close.
Luckily, Nyakundi pulled him back.
Would have been a crappy way to lose, Just like that Van Horn tip in!

Seriously! I cant believe they didn't T him up. That ref knew he [deleted] up the call and didn't want to make it any worse.

Doh probably did deserve a T, but there was no way those bozo refs could call it at that point.
The end of regulation was just horrible - worst officiating I think I have ever witnessed in any sport. Simply laughable.
Of course, all of the confusion kind of overshadows the fact none of our players called a TO on the floor where the officials were actually looking after we got the rebound? That was the real root cause of the whole cluster[deleted].
Granted, it was a strange combination of events with the shot clock running out and a tipped rebound, but we still should have called TO from the floor. We had three left and the players had to know it.

looks like I picked the wrong weekend to be out of town.
I do remember Doh dressing down Papa earlier this year for calling a T.O. at the end of the first half. Doh joked about it on the postgame interview saying something to the effect of "you may be bigger than me, but I can still take you" or something like that

I heard the gray haired ref say it was his fault and that since Dia ( I think it was Dia) threw the ball down teh court to the basket and the players played on, he could not give us the timeout. I have NEVER seen anything like that before. I think the other two refs were really confused as well.

did you catch it when the other two refs were bad-mouthing the ref that looks like Mitch McConnell's avatar? they were so confused and embarrassed. It was while the Mitch McConnell ref was reviewing tape to see if the ball hit the rim.

I am not sure of the college rules; however, the pros have a rule that dictates that you cannot catch then shoot in less than six tenths (??? might be 5 tenths) of a second. The physically impossible rule; however, the clock must be played out in all cases because a lob pass to the basket can be tipped in with out a catch and shoot. Since the clock does not start until the ball is touched a tip in would count.
