don't think SMU would touch a guy who got canned for lying to NCAA investigators. Gillespie has skeletons in his closet, but would have been a more palatable fit for SMU than Pearl. By the way, its funny how Texas Tech can hire BCG and its fine, but it would have been such a horrible move for SMU. Maybe funny isn't the right word, but you get the point.

its about the right fit, and bcg is a good fit at tech. Not so much at smu. Following as close as u do, that should be obvious. Its not totally about skeletons

If Doherty flames out next year and/or in 2013, I would absolutely give Pearl a call. Say what you want about him, but he can flat out coach and recruit. He took Tennessee from nothing to one of the elite programs in college basketball in no time. He may get a 1-2 year suspension from NCAA, but after that, doesn't everyone deserve a second chance?

Pearl may also wind up with the "show cause" rule since he lied to the NCAA...same thing Bliss has, where a school has to get permission from the infractions committee if they want to interview him

I think Nick17 already knows about 90% of this, if he hasn't read it already, but the rest of us bball fans down here need to be edumacated[sic] about Bruce Pearl and who he REALLY it.

I'd heard grumblings about Pearl when I was a Soph in HS while I attended the sweet 16 and elite 8 rounds at the Allstate A near Chicago, a little of it got explained ot me....he was a dog, greasy, slimy. and lots of other unpleasant things.

At the time he was leading UW-Milwaukee on that amazing Sweet 16 run...but i was surrounded by Illini fans and they wouldn't let up on him from 20 min before the game to when I saw him leave out the back of the arena.

Nothing new, he's absolutely despised in the industry, everyone hates him. When all this broke, I was speaking w/a gentleman who is a very good recruiter, and a fast-rising coach. We're friendly, but those w/aspirations don't tend to put opinions on their sleeve, at least until they step to the big podium. Long story short, the diatribe he put on Pearl for being a despicable everything, was epic. The coaching community isn't coming to his rescue anytime soon. It'll be death by 1000 cuts

Bruce Pearl is not only no, but he11 no. The guy lied to the NCAA and to his University (allegedly). Right now we have a coach and I'm not going to go down this road right now. If things turned ugly next year, I have my list.

Dirtbag.......the reason Illinois fans hate him........he tried to entrap Illini recruit Deon Thomas when Pearl recorded a phone conference (illegally). Cost Thomas at least a year of eligibility while the NCAA Federales investigated. Good riddance.
